Being a son to one of the most celebrated and most brilliant artists in the industry has its perks and perils. Amidst all the pressures and comparisons, Arjo Atayde has blossomed into one of the most bankable actors of his generation, proving everyone that he can make a mark through his unmistakable acting talent and stay away from the enormous shadow of his mom, Sylvia Sanchez.
Unbeknownst to many, the tall, fair, and handsome actor had his first TV appearance on the Ang TV 2 which ran from 2001 to 2002 and also featured some of the former child stars that are still active in the present, such as Shaina Magdayao, Denise Laurel, Igi Boy Flores, and Empress Schuck.
But it was only after a decade when he rose to popularity as he scored a supporting role in the fantasy sci-fi drama E-Boy in 2012, playing the role of the perseverant and industrious working student Jepoy.
A year after, he got his first-ever bida-kontrabida through the action-drama afternoon series Carlo J. Caparas’ Dugong Buhay, where he portrayed Rafael de Lara, the villainous son of the influential clan that Ejay Falcon’s character had to destroy.
In 2015, he was cast as an antagonist again in the Filipino adaptation of the Korean series Pure Love top-billed by Alex Gonzaga and Yen Santos. It was also the first project in which he was able to work with Sylvia when she guested as his mentally-challenged mother for a few episodes.
He became one of the recipient of the titular character’s grace in the fantasy drama Nathaniel when took the role of the lowly Pedro Alvaro, who kidnapped Angela “AVL” Villanueva-Laxamana (Coney Reyes) to avenge for his brother’s untimely death.
However, his most remarkable and biggest role to date was in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano where he immortalized the notorious Joaquin Tuazon who always put Ricardo Dalisay (Coco Martin) and his loved ones in great danger. His effective acting in the show gave him his second Best Drama Supporting Actor trophy from the PMPC Star Awards for Television.
Apart from the aforementioned programs, he often have stints in Maalala Mo Kaya as well, with his impressive portrayal of world-renowned fashion designer Rocky Gathercole as his most recent.
