Billed as a romantic-comedy, The Wedding (June 2009) told the story of a hopeless romantic and socialite girl Candice de Meñes (Anne Curtis) who dreamt of walking down the aisle with her ideal man and first love Warren Garcintorena (Derek Ramsay), a wealthy swimmer and promiscuous party animal. However, Warren suddenly left her when they were still teenagers for the reason that he would go to the United States to find himself. Being a doting daughter, her desperation to save her parents’ relationship pushed her to propose a marriage to her mortal nemesis Marlon Mañalac (Zanjoe Marudo), a poor yet hardworking contractor, in exchange of helping his family live a well-off life. As the story progressed, the pretentious couple eventually fell in love with each other. However, Warren’s comeback confused Candice’s feelings and marred her blossoming romance with Marlon, resulting in their break up. But their love for each other remained strong, thus they got married in the end.
Despite being slated in a late timeslot, The Wedding still gained high ratings and rave reviews for its refreshing story and effective performances of the cast. Since it is a rom-com, the viewers were able to see the lighter and funny sides of its main characters and Marlon and Candice’s love-hate relationship was greatly enjoyed.
