Beautiful and amazing.
These words are not only direct translations of a Spanish word, which is coincidentally the surname used by one of the most beautiful and most successful actresses in the local entertainment scene as her screen name -- Kristine Hermosa.
Being in the industry for twenty-three years is not an easy feat considering the fact that the population of new and young talents continues to proliferate every year. Regardless, she still remains as one of the most favorite and revered stars until now.
Kristine is not only one gorgeous woman we adore but also an exceptional actress we admire. Let’s take a look back at her incredible two-decade teleserye journey and see why.
Sa Sandaling Kailangan Mo Ako (1998)
Although the youth-oriented program Gimik was her television debut after getting discovered at the age of 12, it was in the 1998 weekly drama series Sa Sandaling Kailangan Mo Ako where her acting prowess got noticed. She played Agnes, a lady secretly in love with her friend Ruben (Marvin Agustin) and got involved in a love triangle with Raffy (Piolo Pascual) and Stella (G Toengi).
Ang Munting Paraiso (1999)
A year after, she scored a supporting role in the weekly family drama Ang Munting Paraiso, topbilled by veteran actors Coney Reyes and Ronaldo Valdez and was loosely based on the American series 7th Heaven. It was her first team up with Jericho Rosales, playing his character's girlfriend, Rowena.
Pangako Sa ‘Yo (2000)
Due to their unmistakable chemistry, the Echo-Tin ship started to sail and led to their first starring stint together in the iconic teleserye Pangako Sa 'Yo, breathing life to the idyllic lovers Angelo Buenavista and Yna Macaspac. It garnered tremendous acclaim not only here in the Philippines, but also from different parts of the world.
Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas (2003)
The formidable loveteam once again dominated the primetime block via their hit romance drama Sana'y Wala Nang Wakas, which followed the story of star-crossed couple Christian (Jericho) and Ara (Kristine) in fighting for their love in spite of the obstacles inflicted by their parents' long forgotten sins. Because of the mixed opinions of the audiences regarding who Kristine's character should marry in the end, the production decided to shoot two weddings and let the viewers decide. Echo-Tin won, but the nuptials of her and Diether Ocampo's character Leo was also aired but only as a TV special.
‘Til Death Do Us Part (2005)
That might not be a happy ending for their characters, but Kristine and Diether were given a solo drama entitled Til Death Do Us Part, narrating the love story of Ysabel (Kristine) and Manuel (Diether) whose paths crossed after ditching their respective weddings.
Gulong Ng Palad (2006)
After her triumphant team-ups with the two popular hunk heartthrobs of their time, Kristine was paired with TJ Trinidad in the primetime series Gulong ng Palad. In the remake of the 80's TV adaptation of the 50's radio drama, she played the impoverished Luisa who fell in love with the rich young man Carding (TJ).
Sineserye Presents: Palimos Ng Pag-Ibig (2007)
She once again worked with her ex-husband and former loveteam partner Diether through Palimos ng Pag-ibig, the first installment of ABS-CBN's drama anthology that showcases recreations of classic movies billed Sineserye Presents. She took on the role of Ditas, which was originally by Dina Bonnevie, a babymaker hired by the married couple played by Diether and Rica Peralejo.
Prinsesa Ng Banyera (2007)
In 2007, she had her debut on the Kapamilya Gold slot after being tapped to play the lowly yet cheerful main protagonist Maningning in the afternoon soap opera Prinsesa ng Banyera. She was once again paired with TJ Trinidad.
Dahil May Isang Ikaw (2009)
It seemed that the Kapamilya network heard the holler of the Echo-Tin fans for a reunion project, when they were tapped to headline the 2009 series Dahil May Isang Ikaw. Their characters—Kristine as Ella and Jericho as Miguel—were childhood sweethearts who also got separated and reunited again when they became adults and worked as lawyers. It's a riveting story captured the attention of international critics and got nominated in the 2010 International Emmy Awards under the Telenovela category and became a finalist in the 2011 New York Festivals TV & Film Award.
Komiks Presents: Nasaan Ka Maruja? (2009)
The award-winning actress' venture in other genres aside from drama began in Komiks Presents: Nasaan Ka Maruja, a weekly horror series based on the famous comics series of Mars Ravelo. She portrayed Cristy, a clairvoyant whose supernatural ability did not only help in solving the miseries of ghosts, but of her own life's mystery as well, specifically of her past life.
Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Limang Piso Para Sa Puso (2010)
She showed her comical and lighter side through her portrayal of the problem-stricken damsel Sandra in Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Lumang Piso Para sa Puso, which was her first starring project with her real-life husband Oyo Boy Sotto.
Her last TV gig at the Kapamilya network before taking her long showbiz hiatus to take care of her growing family was Noah, wherein she played the enchanting Diwata Eva to whom Piolo Pascual's character Gabriel had a brief romance. It was top-billed by child star Zaijian Jaranilla as Jacob/Eli, Gabriel’s son.
And now, after years of stepping out the limelight as a Kapamilya actress, Kristine thrilled everyone with her much anticipated teleserye comeback through the fantaserye Bagani, where she plays the gorgeous yet cunning goddess Malaya.
Hoping to see Kristine more in the upcoming Kapamilya projects!
