Such is the case in these longest-running teleseryes, which had since been quite unforgettable and part of our popular culture from the time they originally aired until now.
1. Mara Clara, August 1992- February 1997 (4 years and 6 months)
The longest running teleserye so far is the original production of Mara Clara, which revolved around two girls who were switched at birth. A very young Judy Ann Santos as Mara and Gladys Reyes as Clara launched their respective careers in the hit drama, with Juday becoming the Queen of Pinoy Soap Operas and Gladys, the Primera Kontrabida of Philippine television. A remake of the teleserye was made in 2011, with Kathryn Bernardo as Mara and Julia Montes as Clara.
2. FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, September 2015- present (2 years and 9 months, still airing)
FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, the TV series adaptation of Da King Fernando Poe Jr.’s movie of the same title gripped us with its dramatization of real-life issues, situations and conflicts affecting Filipinos. Coco Martin, who plays Cardo Dalisay, emerged as the Primetime King with the action drama as it soared to become the top rating TV program in the country for more than two years.
3. Esperanza, February 1997- July 1999 (2 years and 5 months)
The primetime teleserye that replaced Mara Clara in its primetime slot also starred Judy Ann Santos. She portrayed the titular character and was paired with her blockbuster love team partner then, Wowie de Guzman. The story centered on Esperanza’s family, how they were torn apart and how they would be reunited in the end.
4. Be Careful with My Heart, July 2012- November 2014 (2 years and 4 months)
This was by far, the first-ever Philippine daytime teleserye that lasted for more than two years. Be Careful with My Heart launched the love team of Jodi Sta. Maria and Richard Yap. The story focused on the romance of Maya played by Jodi, and “Ser Chief” portrayed by Richard. The teleserye also became a hit internationally.
5. Mula Sa Puso, March 1997- April 1999 (2 years and 1 month)
A melodrama romance starring the hit love team of Claudine Barretto and the late Rico Yan, Mula Sa Puso had been so endearing and unforgettable in the minds and hearts of viewers. The show told the story of Via (Claudine), who faced conflicts and complications within her family as she fell in love with her savior Gabriel (Rico) and opened her heart to childhood friend and persistent suitor Michael (Diether Ocampo). This was remade in 2011, with Lauren Young as Via, JM de Guzman as Gabriel, and Enrique Gil as Michael.
6. Pangako Sa’yo, November 2000- September 2002 (1 year and 10 months)
Pangako Sa ‘Yo is considered one of the most loved teleseryes of all time, staying on top of the ratings throughout its entire duration on air. The show not only brought the enduring romance of Yna, played by Kristine Hermosa, and Angelo, portrayed by Jericho Rosales, to nationwide attention and acclaim but also the sub plots and narratives of supporting characters. Considered as the first genuine teleserye, Pangako Sa ‘Yo was the first Filipino drama that was broadcast outside the country. A local adaptation of the series was produced in Cambodia. The series was remade in 2015, starring Kathryn Bernardo as Yna and Daniel Padilla as Angelo.
7. Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay, July 2002- November 2003 (1 year and 4 months)
The series that established the smash pair of Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz, Kay Tagal Kitang Hinintay is a remarkable drama series recognized both nationally and internationally. A story about deceit, revenge, and resurgence, Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay featured the country’s finest actors, led by Lorna Tolentino, who carried the drama to unchartered heights, including an International Emmy nomination.
8. Labs Ko Si Babe, August 1999- November 2000 (1 year and 3 months)
Who wouldn’t love the endearing pair of Jolina Magdangal and Marvin Agustin? The ultimate 90s tandem starred in this drama comedy series that satisfied the craving of their shrieking fans. Jolina portrayed Cindy while Marvin played Wally in this cutesy, kilig, laughable sitcom-type teleserye that warmed viewers hearts during its more than a year of airing.
9. May Bukas Pa, February 2009- February 2010 (1 year)
Touching the heart and souls of viewers, May Bukas Pa made its lasting mark on Philippine television as the inspiring teleserye we never dared to miss each weeknight. We got to know Santino and his mission to enliven lives with the help of his “Bro,” and how we can call on Him in times of need. Throughout its year-long run, May Bukas Pa topped the ratings with its message of hope and faith in our everyday lives.
More than the high ratings and industry awards they garnered, these teleseryes have achieved something that is extra special—viewers watching, laughing, crying, fuming, and feeling kilig all over for the longest time when they aired and remembering them through the years.
