In its 67 years of presenting the most “confidently beautiful” women from different parts of the globe, or the universe rather, Miss Universe is undeniably among the most highly-anticipated and widely-watched beauty pageants in history for it is said to be aired in more than 190 countries worldwide and seen by almost a billion people annually.
A total of 66 titleholders have been crowned. They showcased their flawless and smiting splendor and fit physiques that totally made them overly mesmerizing in their evening gowns and swimsuits. They exuded confidence in pulling off their national costumes, their hearts of gold as what their advocacies and backstories reveal. They also showed grace under the pressure in answering the mind-boggling and socially and politically-relevant questions within the given short period of time during the much-awaited Question and Answer portion.
But among the segments of every beauty contest, it is the Q & A that we look forward to the most. It is where the top contestants’ knowledge on current events and issues is tested and their incredible ability play with words or their statements to get through the befuddling quiz despite having a little concern or familiarity about certain topics is exposed.
Over the past six decades as one of the most prestigious pageants, we’re able to hear a lot of sensible, inspiring, and noteworthy retorts that somehow still resonate in our heads. This is because of the way the contestants delivered them with conviction, how those continue to create an impact to everyone of us and the society and be a part of various conversations, and/or just how simple and short yet meaningful they are.
Last year, in Miss Universe’s 66th staging, our country's representative Catriona Gray left the whole universe astounded with how she exuded beauty, confidence and kindness with her every move and her every word. Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray's final question was: "What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your life and how will you apply it to your time as Miss Universe?", which she answered based on her experiences in as an advocate for the unprivileged children in the Philippines. After her awe-inspiring answer, she took home the highly coveted fourth crown for her country.
Now that Miss Universe 2019 is fast-approaching, let’s take a look back on some of the most on-point and unforgettable answers from its winners and candidates through the years.
