The teen-oriented musical drama Good Vibes really stood up to its name as it brought not only the freshest faces of showbiz at that time, but a very relevant, feel good story that the audiences could relate to with touches of music and grooves. Despite its short run, from April 3 to August 28, 2011, it was still able to garner a huge following especially from the teenagers.
However, the show wasn’t all about having fun. It also gave a closer look to the experiences, thoughts, and emotions of the adolescents and how they cope with the struggles that come their way even at a tender age.
Good Vibes chronicled the story of half-brothers Marc (Sam Concepcion) and Troy (Enrique Gil) Pedroza whose paths had to cross due to an unforeseen circumstance. Everything seemed perfect in the life of Marc and his family, until their father Nestor (Dominic Ochoa) revealed that he had a love child, who was Troy, and he must live with them after his mother died due to a severe illness. As expected, the two initially didn’t get along harmoniously as they tried to do their own stuff and outdo each other. They both grew rebellious and often got into trouble.
Amidst their altercations and disapproval on their new set-up, there’s one thing that bound them together: dancing. Aside from being the campus crush because of his intelligence and good looks, Marc was the president of their school’s dance crew. On the other hand, Troy used his talent to make a living for him and his beloved mom. Upon learning that the latter was a good dancer, Marc’s troupe invited Troy along with Geleen (Linn Oeymo) to join their team as a substitute to their members who got expelled. Since they were in dire need and the competition was fast-approaching, their leader agreed and this had been the start of the rapport between the half-brothers.
Apart from that, the show didn’t forget to put some romantic vibes too. Marc’s girlfriend Monique (Coleen Garcia) broke up with him upon discovering that he courted her because of a bet. Marc then linked up with Ara (Yen Santos) to mend his broken heart, Eventually, Marc and Monique rekindled their relationship, leaving Ara brokenhearted. Meanwhile, Troy was going steady with teammate Geleen, leaving his boyish childhood friend Maribeth (Devon Seron) in the loving arms of the Australian dude Spencer Ziff (James Reid). The reconciliation of Marc with his best friend Franco (Aaron Villaflor) after a major misunderstanding got the fans delighted as well.
The series was a fave Sunday habit among youngsters in 2011 as it aired immediately after ASAP. It had been an avenue for the ex-housemates of the Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Clash 2010 and newbie young actors to hone and showcase their talent in acting and dancing. Who would forget the dance battle between Marc’s SinagDiwa and Troy’s Bustamoves?
Indeed, Good Vibes was just more than just a romantic and feel good drama, but an inspirational and in-depth take on stories of youngsters in the real world.
