What does not kill you, only makes you stronger.
This, perhaps, is what Joshua Garcia and Julia Barreto have realized after the recent controversy that shook their seemingly perfect world. Despite the drama, neither denied the rumors nor hid from it. In fact, they instead chose to face it head-on, even braving the blunt questions posed by the King of Talk himself on Tonight with Boy Abunda. After a solo interview last week that brought him to tears, Joshua is joined by Julia in a tell-all interview.
“With me, when I’m not ready to speak about it, I just want the person to know that I’m aware of what happened. I’m aware of what you did,” explains Julia of her response after learning of the incident. In a calm manner, she called Joshua to tell him just that, then took time to be by herself.
“That’s my time to think, that’s my time to reflect, and that’s my time to pray.” She wisely chose to keep her cool, knowing that their relationship was bigger than one misstep. “We have respect for each other. There’s love, and we built something beautiful.”
“I have learned important things: self-worth, self-value, things I can tolerate and what I cannot tolerate,” says Julia. “It was a rough patch. Up to this day, he is still trying to gain my trust, and that’s the truth.”
What is truly remarkable about JoshLia’s relationship is their honest acceptance of each other and the reality that they aren’t perfect, but they choose each other anyway. As Boy Abunda commented, “The real you is good.”
While it’s true that this picture-perfect couple isn’t as flawless as many would like to think, JoshLia know that these rough spots are part of the relationship. “We’re okay. It’s better to live with your heart at peace than to have your heart with so much anger,” advises Julia. “Accept, forgive, and move on. It’s a process.”
Communication is key, and both call and text each other often. They take photos of the food they eat, events they go to, their downtime. When they’re apart, Julia even asks Joshua to send her his selfies. “Miss ko siya,” admits Julia with a smile.
Joshua and Julia choose to make the most of each moment together, immortalizing it with couple selfies using their #OPPOF7. As each experience makes us better people, so does each feature we have make us special and beautiful.
