Bubbly and fresh-faced, Ruth Paga is the newest Kapamilya to watch out for. She was recently hailed as the ultimate winner in the Kapamilya online talent search “Bida Star: Gandang Naturally Fresh.” Let’s get to know more of her as she takes on the First and Last Challenge for Kapamilya Chat.
Ruth’s childhood dream is to become an actress. She would hustle hard to make this happen, trying her luck in auditions. The first contest she joined was Pinoy Big Brother. Then-15-year-old college student, she took a leap of faith by travelling from Baguio to Manila.
She looked like a petite girl carrying a big bag and bigger dreams. She was lost in the city yet she pushed through. Unfortunately, she didn’t make the cut. Ruth went home to Baguio even more determined to improve her physical appearance and continue working on her dreams. She said she used to act boyish.
Asked about her first embarrassing moment, Ruth opened up about her experiences dealing with OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder). She has this habit of smelling plates. While attending a friend’s birthday celebration at home, she was caught sniffing the dish.
“Noong birthday ng best friend ko, hindi ko napigilan ‘yung sarili ko na amuyin ‘yung plato kahit mabango naman. ‘Pag amoy ko, nakatingin sa akin ‘yung Nanay niya,” shared Ruth. She said she’s learning to control this habit.
The face is the first thing she looks at a person, and that’s how she mentally gauges someone’s attitude. The last time she said ‘I love you’ was to her mom just before this interview.
The last time she cried was during the announcement of the winner in “Bida Star.” She described that moment, “Grabe ‘yung hagulhol ko noon parang isang timba.”
For Ruth, coffee is life and it’s the last thing she thinks of at night. Meanwhile, the last person she thinks about is her mother. The last message she sent reads: “Anya ngay.” It’s an Ilocano greeting/phrase which translates to “Ano na?”
Growing up in the Summer Capital of the Philippines, Ruth Paga grew her love for organic food especially vegetables. Ruth demos a dressing-free vegetable salad recipe in this episode of Kapamilya Chat.
Ruth calls this her secret to a fit and healthy body, which she worked on as part of achieving her ‘artista’ dreams. “Sabi ko, bakit ang mga artista sobrang sexy, so na-engganyo ako na kailangan kong magkaroon ng fit body. I’m happy na na-achieve na natin,” she said smiling.
Here’s how to prepare the healthy snack:
- Arrange lettuce leaves in a bowl.
- Add a few slices of cucumber, avocado, and tomato.
- Put a handful of thinly sliced carrots and around two tablespoons of yellow corn.
- Place the grated cheese on top of the corn.
- Add coriander leaves for aroma.
- Drizzle in a slice of lemon.
- Season with salt. Enjoy the salad fresh and a little bit tangy!
Ruth is proud of being a Kalinga Province native. Their place is blessed with good weather and fresh produce. Asked to pick one celebrity she’d like to tour around Baguio, she went for Kathryn Bernardo and Joshua Garcia. She would like to bring them to Baguio’s popular tourist spots like the Botanical Garden and strawberry farms.
To end the interview, Ruth thanked everyone who made her win as the Ultimate Bida Star possible.
“Maraming salamat sa family ko na super supportive sa akin, sa mga friends ko, at ‘yung mga tao na hindi ko man kilala pero tumulong sa akin. Thank you so much and I’m hoping na maibalik ko hindi man sa inyo pero sa ibang tao ‘yung tulong na binigay ninyo.”
