The Philippine entertainment industry mourns the loss of Roldeo Theodore Endrinal, or Sir Deo to many, a creative gem who breathed life into numerous iconic Kapamilya shows and seryes as a writer, producer, and eventually as the head of Dreamscape Entertainment.
With his passion for storytelling, he was instrumental in shaping the landscape of ABS-CBN’s teleserye production, captivating Kapamilyas with an array of high-quality entertaining programs which have become household favorites, and will forever live on as part of his legacy.
Today, we pay homage to the beloved leader by celebrating his body of work, which commenced in 1986 when he made his entry into the entertainment scene as a writer. In 1989, he started working for ABS-CBN, where he not only discovered a fulfilling career but, above all, found a family.
In 1992, he initiated the program “Showbiz Lingo,” immediately followed by talk shows,“Teysi Ng Tahanan,” “The Buzz,” and “Today With Kris Aquino.”
He was also one of the creators of the Sunday noontime show “ASAP,” now “ASAP Natin ‘To,” which is celebrating its 29th anniversary. In last week’s episode, the “ASAP Natin ‘To” artists made an emotional tribute to Deo, with Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez leading the pack.
“He is such a big part of why ASAP is the most awarded, longest-running musical variety show of Philippine television today... He started with a piece of paper 29 years ago today in a small room figuring out what kind of show this could be, what would be the title, and who could run the show,” shared Martin.
“He had faith in us than we had in ourselves.”
Pops, holding back her tears, added, “Deo was one of the creators of ASAP when we didn’t know where the show was gonna go, and we didn’t expect it to be still on for 29 years after.”
Deo’s body of work is a testament to his ability to cater to audience’s diverse preferences, from the youth-oriented show “Gimik” to classic soap operas “Mula Sa Puso,” “Saan Ka Man Naroroon", “Sa Dulo Ng Walang Hanggan," and “Tayong Dalawa.”
He was committed to exploring new horizons in teleserye production, leading to the creation of inspirational series like “May Bukas Pa” and “100 Days to Heaven”; as well as teleseryes that pushed the envelope in terms of storytelling such as “Dirty Linen.”
Dreamscape Entertainment was also the creative force behind the longest-running primetime series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano”; the groundbreaking collaboration series between ABS-CBN and GMA Network, “Unbreak My Heart;” and one of ABS-CBN’s first tie-up projects with TV5, “Pira-Pirasong Paraiso." This only proves the significant contributions he made to the development of the entertainment industry as a whole.
The production outfit’s most recent creative endeavors, “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” and “Linlang”, are currently being aired on Kapamilya platforms.
Apart from his role as a producer, he played a significant part in shaping the future generation of actors, writers, and directors as a mentor. He once managed the careers of some big-named stars including Coco Martin, Vice Ganda, and Kris Aquino.
Deo’s legacy will continue to inspire and influence the future of Philippine television. In the entertainment industry, he is called a visionary.
