Sweet Surprises: Unexpected guest appearances in teleseryes of 2023

Kapamilya teleseryes have been known for their ability to enthral viewers with unforeseen plot turns. One of the elements that truly make Kapamilya series special is the occasional surprise appearance of celebrities in guest roles. In 2023, a number of cameos have left audiences floored. Check them out below.

Through the years, Coco Martin has been known for his compassion towards his fellows in the entertainment industry, giving actors who haven’t been active in showbiz for years their comeback vehicle through his series. He made viewers excited when he tapped boxing champ Luisito Espinosa to join the cast of his current teleseye “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.” In the story, Luisito portrays Roberto, a former boxing great, who would end up playing a role in Santino (Ronwaldo Martin)’s boxing journey.

Recently, comedian Dinky Doo and sexy actress Ynez Veneracion had a short stint in the series as owners of the resort where Coco and Ivana Alawi’s characters hid from the police. Many were surprised as it has been a long time since the two were seen on TV. They were also joined by classic names in comedy – Jaime Cuales aka Pango, Roberto Antonino aka Bantay, and Eddie Vale aka Nognog.

The already huge star power in the afternoon series “Pira-Pirasong Paraiso” just shone brighter when Maricel Soriano popped in to play the Paraiso sisters’ grandmother, Amanda Barrameda. Although her screen time was short, the veteran actress was truly a game-changer in the narrative.

Recently, former Rosanna Roces debuted in the series as Criselda. Nobody expected that she’d be the one to portray the notorious syndicate leader in the story, thus the internet exploded with imaginative theories about her connection to the Paraiso sisters.

Two hot leading men in one show is already too much for our hearts to take, but Ejay Falcon made our afternoons even hotter by his appearance in “Nag-Aapoy Na Damdamin” as Elias, the illegitimate son of Javier Buencamino (Richard Quan). His character saved Jane Oineza’s Olivia from the bad guys, and viewers got wild over the pair’s undeniable chemistry.

As Senior High opened its second and more intense chapter, it also introduced a new character, Yosef, who is bent on exacting vengeance against his sister’s abuser. The character is given life by Grae Fernandez. Fans were surprised, as Grae hasn’t been seen on TV in a long while since his previous teleserye “Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin concluded in 2021.

Showbiz luminary Celeste Legaspi is known for her musical and theatrical flair. She also appears in teleseryes, although in rare occurences, which is why followers of Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano’s Can’t Buy Me Love” were pleasantly surprised when she joined the show as Cathy, the relative of the Tiu family whom Wilson (Rowell Santiago) tapped to hire her daughters Caroline (Belle) and Irene (Maris Racal) as staff in her restaurant to teach them respect and hard work. Her cute banters with Caroline and Irene add more charm to her role, so we can say she truly contributes excitement to the series.

These surprise guest appearances not only showcased the artists’ versatility but also contributed to the overall enjoyment of viewers. As we welcome 2024, we anticipate more surprise appearances from our beloved stars!
