“Sayang”, the iconic song of the Karen Carpenter of the Philippines surely plays on the minds of OPM aficionados at this moment after learning that jukebox queen Claire dela Fuente has died of cardiac arrest. She was 63.
Not only was her recognizable singing voice and songs linked to the golden age of OPM, Claire has also been a well-followed, acclaimed performer even years after her peak as an artist.
She showed this in her appearances on It’s Showtime and ASAP, where she was truly honored and bestowed as an OPM legend.
Claire and fellow jukebox queen Eva Eugenio revved up our noontime in an ultimate throwback of their classics in a collab with the TNT Divas.
She also sang “Sayang” on the It’s Showtime segment “Singing Mo ‘To”
Years back she again performed with another jukebox icon Imelda Papin for another string of their hit songs that delighted the madlang people.
And with nine other jukebox royalties, including Renz Verano, Lloyd Umali, Jerome Abalos, Chad Borja, Eva Eugenio, Alynna, Mae Rivera, Jude Michael, and Randy Santiago, Claire sang her iconic hit “Sayang” with It’s Showtime hosts Jugs Jugueta and Teddy Corpuz.
On ASAP, Claire also sang a duet with Concert King Martin Nievera singing her timeless hit, “Sayang.”
The OPM world is certainly in deep grief over the loss of one of its stellar legends. We extend our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.
