Kris Aquino, together with Angeline Quinto, continues with her food trip adventure in Binan, Laguna where they met up with Mayora Len Alonte to try the city’s best dishes. First on their list is Umenoya, the Japanese restaurant business of Mayora Len’s husband, Steve Naguiat and co-owner, Cien Urbamino. Two of their specialties include sukiyaki and miso nabe that are both cooked in front of the ordering customers. Other Japanese delights they offered are shrimp tempura, sushi boat and chicken yakitori, among others.
Mayora Len and Steve are already married for 10 years with two kids, so Kris took this opportunity to ask them of their secret to a happy married life. When asked why Steve does not show up whenever her wife has political gatherings, he said, “Dun lang ako sa sideline. Kung kailangan niya ako dun, okay, dun lang tayo lalabas.” This made Mayora Len proud of her supportive husband by saying, “Binigyan ako ng secured na asawa.”
The mayor then took the reali-TV team to taste the famous Filipino dishes that are also Laguna’s best such as sinigang na tinadtad na baka, lechon na baboy stuffed with tanglad or lemon grass, bibingka, puto bumbong and a special salabat made from pandan and avocado.
Lastly, they went to Aling Nene’s Sweets and Pasalubong store where owners, Nene Reyes and daughter, Rowena Reyes-Decena, introduced them to the process of making a puto pao, buko pie and the famous, puto binan. Kris and Angeline also tried their other delicacies such as crispy okoy and kutsinta.
