On “KrisTV,” Kris Aquino and guest co-host, Kim Chiu went to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Main Building located in Taguig City.
They were welcomed by Sec. Joel Villanueva of TESDA and were introduced to the different skills training programs they facilitate for free, to a diverse set of students.
For instance, Villanueva took them to the TESDA Women’s Center, where Kris and Kim learned how women are empowered through the skills they acquire, given that TESDA is open for everyone regardless of their age and situations. Afterwards, they toured around the various services programs that the alternative school offers. There are programs for computer literacy, pharmacy, plumbing, basic dressmaking, food and beverage, housekeeping, laundry, commercial cooking, slaughtering operations, and automotive servicing where Kris and Kim met Marites Penaverde.
Marites is a former house helper whose classmate at TESDA, Chona helps her get by. This brought Kim to tears as she remembered her own experiences before she entered showbiz. With this, Kris said, “Alam ko why, kasi na-experience mo yung makitira,” which Kim replied with, “Yeah, kasi wala kaming money.” Kris also shared that when Kim was 9 to 16 years old, she and her family experienced living in another person’s home and sometimes, they were even too shy to eat. Kim gave a message to Marites and Chona saying, “Basta may paraan, go lang ng go…At saka mayroon namang madaming tutulong.”
The TESDA tour continues tomorrow, October 8 on “KrisTV,” weekdays at 8AM.
