This 2019, not only the seasoned and veteran thespians were able to enthrall and astound us with their teleserye stints, but our very own promising child stars as well!
Through their impressive performances in the respective television projects they got featured in, they have proven that they are indeed more than just their irresistible charms and adorable facades as they can keep pace with the biggest stars of ABS-CBN.
As we move on to 2020, let’s take a look back on the child actors who indeed shone bright in their remarkable portrayals in the teleserye aired this year through this Paandar 2019 feature.
JJ Quilantang as Robin, Playhouse
From captivating us for the first time as the young Tristan Torralba in the 2017 action-fantasy series La Luna Sangre, JJ Quilantang once again melted our hearts in the daytime drama Playhouse as Robin, an orphaned kid whose custody case was staunchly fought for by his parents’ close friends Marlon (Zanjoe Marudo) and Patty (Angelica Panganiban) and who would be the driving force for the lead characters to get back together.
Sophia Reola as Mikmik, Nang Ngumiti ang Langit
With her unmistakable cuteness and impressive acting prowess, it’s actually not hard to fall in love with Sophia Reola, who made our mornings brighter throughout Nang Ngumiti Ang Langit’s seven-month run from March to October 2019. Playing the role of the lead protagonist Mikmik, she indeed amused us with her shenanigans and made us cry buckets in her every dramatic scene.
Heart Ramos as Britney, Nang Ngumiti ang Langit
Another Nang Ngumiti Ang Langit child actress who charmed us with her irresistible cuteness was Heart Ramos, who we first loved in the 2017 teleserye My Dear Heart as the titular character. Just like Sophia, we also found ourselves amused with her as she embodied Britney, a little girl who, from initially allowing her older sister manipulate her, eventually had mustered enough courage to go against her and fight for what she knew was right.
Miguel Vergara as Joseph, Nang Ngumiti ang Langit (2019)
Acting wasn’t actually new to child actor Miguel Vergara anymore for he’s already appeared in a number of films and Kapamilya teleseryes since his career took off in 2012 via the box-office Star Cinema flick “One More Try.” However, it’s arguably through Nang Ngumiti Ang Langit that his star shone the brightest as he played Joseph, the admirable sidekick of Mikmik and the son of Matet de Leon and Keempee de Leon’s characters.
Krystal Mejes as Amber, Nang Ngumiti ang Langit
Unlike the three Nang Ngumiti Ang Langit kids included in this list, Krystal Mejes’ character, Amber, was abhorred because of how she almost brandished the cruel personality of her mom Katrina (Cristine Reyes) and how seemingly fond she was of making Mikmik’s life miserable. Yes, she might be a kontrabida, but her unmistakable charm and acting brilliance still made her worthy to be admired.
Iyannah Sumalpong as Leyna, Sino ang Maysala?
From brief exposures in various television commercials and fashion shows she graced, up-and-rising Iyannah Sumalpong scored a much longer airtime through her first-ever teleserye stint in the crime drama Sino Ang Maysala? Mea Culpa, wherein she’s able to unleash her acting chops as Leyna (or Joy) – the young girl who’s the center of the whole muddle.
Raikko Mateo as Pongky, Pamilya Ko
It can be recalled that Raikko Mateo first skyrocketed to stardom via his titular role gig in the 2013 kidserye Honesto. He then became a mainstay in the long-running kiddie gag show Goin’ Bulilit and appeared in a slew of TV and film projects before landing a spot in the Pamilya Ko ensemble where he’s currently seen as the brainy yet playful Pongky, the youngest of the eight broods of the Mabunga Family.
Zyren Dela Cruz as Young JC, Sandugo
He might be a newcomer, but Zyren Dela Cruz has already proven his versatility as an actor after showcasing his acting prowess in the Kapamilya anthologies Ipaglaban Mo and Maalaala Mo Kaya and in the weekly horror series Parasite Island. However, it’s arguably in his stint in Sandugo as the sickly young JC, who is currently being played by Ejay Falcon, through which he’s able to further display his dramatic talent.
Marc Santiago as Young Aris, Sandugo (2019)
Starting his showbiz career in 2014 via the James Reid and Nadine Lustre-starrer Wansapantaym: My App Boyfie where he got nominated in Best New Male TV Personality category, we already had the hint that this handsome charmer is going to make it big in the local entertainment scene in the future.
From charming the viewers as the young Tenten in the 2016 romantic drama Dolce Amore to portraying Santi, the son of Amelia and Tiago in The General’s Daughter, Marc Santiago enthralled us with his impressive performance in Sandugo as the rebellious yet kind and street-smart young Aris, currently portrayed by Aljur Abrenica.
Yesha Camile as Young Teresa, Starla
Ever since winning a popular milk brand’s reality talent competition for kids in 2013, Yesha Camile has been notably in-demand as she appeared in a string of television projects through the years. From teleseryes to anthologies, she never failed to captivate us with her pleasant façade and remarkable acting prowess, such as in her latest stint in the primetime series Starla wherein she embodied the naïve young Teresa, which was later on portrayed by Heaven Peralejo and Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo.
Jana Agoncillo as Starla, Starla (2019)
It has been five years ago since Jana Agoncillo got her biggest break in showbiz, not to mention it being her debut, via the primetime drama Dream Dad which she co-headlined with hunk actor Zanjoe Marudo. And now, her star continues to shine (literally!) as she plays the titular character in the primetime ‘kid serye’ Starla. From that irresistibly cute kiddo who could effortlessly warm our hearts by simply looking at her, we’ve seen her astonishingly transform into a bubbly wish-granting girl in her present role.
Enzo Pelojero as Buboy, Starla (2019)
Those who have been fervently watching It’s Showtime would probably remember him as the adorable and witty young boy who became part of the program for quite sometime after joining the second season of their Mini Me segment.
And now, from being the bestfriend-slash-sidekick of Heart Ramos’ character in the 2017 series My Dear Heart, Enzo Pelojero is able to snag his first-ever leading role via Starla, wherein he amuses us as the kind and helpful Buboy.
With their undeniable good looks and promising dramatic performances, for sure, many are hoping to see more of these talented kiddos in the upcoming projects of ABS-CBN in 2020 and even beyond!
