Kapamilya fans, it’s the time of the year again when you can show your appreciation, support, and gratitude to your favorite stars through PUSH Awards, the annual awarding ceremony of ABS-CBN’s showbiz news portal PUSH.com.ph that aims to honor top online Filipino personalities and internet sensations who relentlessly spread love, generosity, and entertainment through their media appearances.
And in its seventh staging this year, fandoms have the chance to support their idols by voting for them in seven categories on push.abs-cbn.com/vote from January 31 to February 27. Among the categories were the PUSH Music Personality of the Year, in which Maymay Entrata, Gigi De Lana, and Pinoy Pop groups BINI, BGYO, and SB19 are nominated for their continuously providing entertainment and inspiration through their music and performances.
In the past year, Maymay had astounded us not only with her powerful dance numbers on ASAP Natin ‘To, but with her fiery dance hits “Di Kawalan”, “Amakabogera”, and “Naniniwala Ako” that were all part of her “MPowered” album released in 2021. Her fans were able to witness her live performances of her newest tracks, as well as her renditions of other popular songs in her “MPowered Digital Concert” last November.
Five years since her remarkable stint in Tawag ng Tanghalan Season 1, Gigi de Lana, formerly known as Gidget Dela Llana, is now making waves in the local entertainment scene. She rose to fame after her and her band The GG Vibes’ version of Roselle Nava’s “Bakit Nga Ba Mahal Kita” in one of their livestreams trended online. She’s now one of the talents of Rise Artists Studios and Star Magic, as well as recently enthralled us with their first two singles “Sakalam”and “O Bakit Ba”. She’s also tapped to sing the OST of the primetime series Viral Scandal titled “Nasa’yo Ako”.
From teasing us with their pre-debut single “Da Coconut Nut” in 2020, Star Magic girl group BINI, comprised by Jhoanna Robles, Aiah Arceta, Colet Vergara, Maloi Ricalde, Gwen Apuli, Stacey Sevilleja, Mikha Lim, and Sheena Catacutan, has indeed bloomed into becoming one of the fast-rising acts of their generation. They had their debut on June 11, 2021 and since then charmed us with their performances of their songs “Born To Win”, “Kapit Lang”, and “Golden Arrow”.
Their counterpart BGYO, or short for “Becoming the change, Going Further, You and I, Originally Filipino”, has been taking away the OPM scene by storm not just with their handsome visuals, but with their captivating performances as well. Gelo Rivera, Akira Morishita, Mikki Claver, JL Toreliza, and Nate Porcalla had already come a long way ever since they were officially launched in January 2021, as they’ve already released five chart-topping singles, namely, “Light”, “He’s Into Her”, “The Baddest”, “When I’m With You”, and “Kundiman”. They were also chosen to sing the ABS-CBN Summer ID “Feel Good Pilipinas” alongside KZ Tandingan and the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 official National Costume anthem “Kulay”.
Last, but definitely not the least, is P-Pop frontrunner SB19 who have been unstoppable in conquering the global entertainment scene. This year, the group, comprised by Pablo Nase, Josh Santos, Stell Ajero, Ken Suson, and Justin de Dios, released their extended play “Pagsibol”, which includes their hit tracks “Wag Mong Ikunot Ang Iyong Noo”, “What?”, “MAPA”, “Bazinga” and “SLMT”. In a span of four years, they’ve already reaped recognitions from various award-giving bodies in-and-out of the country, such as the “Best Southeast Asian Act” nomination from the 2021 MTV Europe Music Awards.
Fandoms may also vote for their favorite celebrities in other categories, namely, PUSH Popular Loveteam of the Year, PUSH Content Creator of the Year, PUSH Social Media Personality of the Year, PUSH Trending Tiktoker of the Year, PUSH Favorite Onscreen Performance of the Year, and PUSH Celebrity Mom of the Year.
A special category is also added this year named PUSH Inspiration 2021, which aims to honor an individual who’s an epitome of empowerment by bringing pride to the country with their achievements and boosting the morale of Filipinos amid these trying times. This is not fan-voted.
