From Daddy s Girl to the Megastar Sharon Cuneta Celebrates 50th Birthday Part 1 1

Dubbed as The Megastar, Sharon Cuneta is one of the biggest names in Philippine entertainment. She is a singer, an actress, a TV host, and an endorser for many products. One may say that she has conquered showbusiness after appearing in all its platforms. Such feat is no surprise since she grew up surrounded by music, thanks to her dad's extensive record collection, and is related to the Cuneta and Sotto showbiz clans.

She was born to former Manila mayor Pablo Cuneta (1910-2000) and Elaine Gamboa (1934-2014) on January 6, 1966. Her mother is the sister of singer-actress Helen Gamboa and sister-in-law of actor-politician Tito Sotto. He has one brother, Ceasar "Chet" Cuneta and more than 20 half-siblings. She married on-screen partner and co-actor Gabby Concepcion in 1984. Her first born is KC Concepcion, an actress and singer herself. At present, Sharon is married to Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan. They have three kids: Frankie, Miel, and Miguel.

During one of the parties that she attended as a young girl, she sang "Bato sa Buhangin" in front of family and friends. She was only 11 then and no one expected that it'll be the start of a life-long career. Tito Sotto, vice president of Vicor Music at the time, was impressed by her voice and invited the young girl to make a record for his label. The Megastar recorded her first single "Tawag ng Pag-ibig" at the age of 12 in 1978. The record got a lukewarm response but her team didn't give up. Rey Valera was then chosen by Sotto to create a song fitting for the aspiring singer and this was the Filipino pop culture hit "Mr. DJ" (1978). She was eventually dubbed as a "D.J.'s Pet," the name of her first album. More hit albums and movie soundtracks followed and she became the first "Movie Soundtrack Star" of the country. In 2002, she was given a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Board of Directors of the Philippine Association of Recording Industry. Her album "Isn't It Romantic?" (2006) was awarded with the elusive Diamond Record Certification (250,000 units sold), making it the second in the Philippines.
