4) A Second Chance Becomes Highest Grossing Film of All Time
Eight years ago, even before the concept of hugot was popularized by heartbreaking stories and tear-jerking lines, the ultimate hugot film was already born. “One More Chance” (dir. Cathy Garcia-Molina) starred by John Lloyd Cruz (Popoy) and Bea Alonzo (Basha) became a classic as quotes were used again and again by fans.
A sequel to this movie, aptly titled "A Second Chance"
came out last November 25, 2015 and it now holds the record for being the all-time highest-grossing Filipino film. It made a total of P556 million worldwide after its four-week run in cinemas. It beat the previous record-holder, "The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin," which made P456 million during its run in the 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival. It also made history as the first local film which made more than half a billion pesos and the first locally produced film to be distributed in the United Kingdom. It’s also the new record-holder for having the highest first-day value for a non-MMFF movie after garnering 43.3 million pesos on its opening day.
