The Christmas spirit becomes alive when carols are in the air, but it gets louder and merrier when ABS-CBN drops its official holiday anthem. It can’t be denied that ABS-CBN Christmas IDs are so dear to Filipinos’ hearts that even the stars look forward to this yearly tradition. As everyone anticipates this year’s Kapamilya Yuletide hymn, celebrities reminisce the past Stations IDs and pick the most remarkable for them.
The tracks used in Kapamilya Christmas IDs IDs can evoke nostalgia and turn up the cheer, like “Bro, IKaw Ang Star Ng Pasko,” the 2009 anthem that remains on repeat in everybody’s minds and hearts to this day.
The song was inspired by the iconic series “May Bukas Pa,” which popularized the term “Bro” in reference to Jesus Christ. Of course, it’s the ultimate favorite of Zaijian Jaranilla, the then-child wonder who headlined the said teleserye, and the 2009 music video which serves as a reminder that Bro is the reason for the season.
“Bro, Ikaw Ang Star Ng Pasko” or simply “Star Ng Pasko” never gets old, so much so that most artists asked in this video from ent.abs-cbn.com said it’s their favorite too. Shaina Magdayao remembers how LSS-ed they were after shooting its music video.
Even superstar Judy Ann Santos has fond memories about this iconic Christmas campaign, “Kasi nu’ng ginagawa namin ‘yun, lahat ng ABS-CBN stars magkakasama, hindi kami magkakahiwalay. It was sort of a reunion na impromptu. Masaya ‘yung vibe, masaya ‘yung himig ng kanta napakalapit sa puso. At saka napakatotoo ng lyrics ng kanta. It was something catchy kasi hindi siya mahirap ramdamin.”
As RK Bagatsing puts it, “’Pag naririning ko yun even now ramdam na ramdam ko nandiyan na ‘yung simoy ng Pasko.”
Indeed, there’s something so magical about “Star Ng Pasko” that it can make you sentimental any time of the year. It’s also on top of the Christmas playlists of Joshua Garcia, Janine Gutierrez, Sofia Andres, Bianca Gonzalez, Nyoy Volante, Elmo Magalona, and Elijah Canlas. To prove that it’s their ultimate pick, Janella Salvador, Bianca de Vera, and Gillian Vicencio even sang its chorus part. Meanwhile, other artists picked their specific ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID favorite for the memories it reminds them of. The 2023 jingle “Magkasama Tayo Sa Kwento Ng Pasko” is especially dear to Klarisse de Guzman, as it was the first Christmas ID that she was part of the recording.
Elha Nympha just graduated from The Voice Kids when she and her coach, Bamboo, were tapped to record for the 2015 “Thank You For The Love” campaign. They were joined by the tandems of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil, and Nadine Lustre and James Reid.
“Thank You For The Love,” which highlights gratitude to Kapamilyas for their continued support, is also Kyle Echarri’s most memorable one.
For AC Bonifacio, the ABS-CBN Christmas IDs are significant to her journey as an artist. She remembers listening to the 2014 jingle “Thank You, Ang Babait Ninyo” as a kid in Canada where she was previously based. Then, she became part of the all-star recording for last year’s “Tayo Ang Ligaya Ng Isa’t Isa.” To her, it’s a 180-degree transformation, “It’s such an honor to be able to watch it before and now I’m actually in it.”
Since it was in 2021 when her career with Star Magic and Rise Artist Studios officially took off, Shanaia Gomez will always remember that year’s “Andito Tayo Para Sa Isa’t Isa” anthem, which highlights ABS-CBN’s promise to be in the service of the Filipino despite challenges. The same goes for Angela Ken, who, from being a TikTok star conquered the mainstream music scene in 2021.
For youngsters like Mutya Orquia, Christmas Station ID shoots are an opportunity to see old friends and mingle with the more senior stars, which is why last year’s “Tayo Ang Ligaya Ng Isa’t Isa,” which reunited her with her Kapamilyas, will hold a special place in her heart.
John Arcilla struggled to pick just one as he looks forward to this yearly tradition and says that each song leaves a remarkable impact on Filipinos’ hearts. For Bayani Agbayani, his favorite is the Christmas ID infused with his song “Otso-Otso Pasko.”
Comedian Negi picked the 2012 “Lumiliwanag Ang Mundo Sa Kwento Ng Pasko” Christmas offering, which was inspired by real events during and after the height of calamities that ravaged the country that year. It shows how the Filipino spirit of resilience and heroism shines in times of disaster.
The 2020 Christmas ID “Ikaw Ang Liwanag At Ligaya” has received big love for its powerful message about finding light and joy in the midst of darkness. This one’s especially memorable for Jameson Blake, who appeared at the beginning of the music video.
Aside from carrying the message of hope, family, faith, and love, the ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID IDs is a visual feast for stalwart fans as it gathers the biggest and brightest Kapamilya stars.
This year, ABS-CBN continues the tradition with “Pasko Ang Pinakamagandang Kwento.”
