Abs-Cbn is Thomasians' Network of Choice at 11th USTV Awards

ABS-CBN was named the network of choice chosen by more than 40,000 students of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) as the Kapamilya Network bagged the Student Leaders’ Choice of TV Network, alongside 21 other recognitions, at the recently concluded 11th USTv Students’ Choice Awards held in UST, Manila.

ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Inc., meanwhile, was also recognized as the Student Leaders’ Choice of Network Foundation for its various causes.

Aside from the two top plums, ABS-CBN personalities also led this year’s awardees, with Kim Atienza and Sarah Geronimo taking home the Thomasian Media Personality awards, and Atom Araullo as the Student Leaders’ Choice of TV Personality.

In its 11th year, USTv Awards introduced new categories that recognize TV networks’ initiatives on social media. ABS-CBN’s #PopeFrancisPH and #TulongPH social media campaigns were the first recipients of the Student Leaders’ Choice of Social Media Campaign for Catholic Formation and Student Leaders’ Choice of Social Media Campaign for Environmental Protection, respectively.

Awards of Excellence were also handed out to programs that have already won more than five times since UST started eleven years back. Among the Kapamilya programs recognized were “TV Patrol,” “Matanglawin,” “ASAP,” and “Maalaala Mo Kaya.”

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN programs and personalities once again dominated the entertainment categories.

Toni Gonzaga was the biggest winner of the night with three USTv Awards as Students’ Choice of Talk Show Host, Reality/Game Show Host, and Variety Show Host. She personally received and thanked Thomasians for the awards and even gave a song number to the delight of students.

Other winners include “Dream Dad” (Drama Program), “The Voice Kids” (Reality/Game Show), “The Buzz” (Talk Show), and “It’s Showtime” (Variety Show).

When it comes to news categories, ABS-CBN was also on a roll as it bagged the Students’ Choice of News Program for “Bandila,” News Host (Male) for Julius Babao, Documentary Special for “Spratlys: Mga Isla ng Kalayaan,” and Sports Program for “Sports Unlimited.”

Concert King Martin Nievera and “The Voice of the Philippines” Season 2 grand winner Jason Dy graced the USTv Awards Night and serenaded the crowd with their respective performances.

The USTv Student’s Choice Awards is a student award giving body that aims to give recognition to programs and personalities that promote Thomasian values and in harmony with the Catholic teachings.
