Starting this Sunday, April 16, coaches Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo and Sharon Cuneta are back in search for the next singing sensation in “The Voice Teens”.
Popstar Royalty Sarah G became a coach of “The Voice” from the very first season. However, on the third season of the Kids edition, she decided to give up her slot and Megastar Sharon Cuneta became the third coach. Team Sarah has already produced two winners, Lyca Gairanod for the first season of “The Voice Kids” and Jason Dy for the second season of “The Voice of the Philippines”.
To celebrate the achievements of the past contestants of “The Voice”, let us find out where are they now and what have they done after their stints in the reality singing competition. Here are some updates of the successful contenders from Team Sarah.
Klarisse de Guzman
Losing at the semi-finals on the first season of “The Voice of the Philippines” didn't stop Klarisse’s passion for music. Aside from performing in various Kapamilya shows and events, she has also released her self-titled album with singles like “Sana’y Tumibok Muli” and “Mahal Mo Pa Ba Ako” last 2016. She is regularly seen as one of the Birit Queens on “ASAP” with Morissette Amon, Jona and Angeline Quinto. Recently, the four singers had a successful concert at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Lyca has definitely made a name for herself after winning the first season of “The Voice Kids”. It opened doors for more opportunities and she has had numerous appearances in television. She has proven to be more than just a beautiful voice by acting in Kapamilya shows like “Maalaala Mo Kaya” and “Hawak-Kamay”. She continues to shine as a singer and she has performed in numerous concerts and events. She also released her own album entitled “Puede Nang Mangarap”. She became one of the contestants of “Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids” where she showed off her versatility as a performer, impersonating music icons like Tina Turner, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.
Coming in second to Lyca Gairanod didn’t hinder Darren’s rise in the music industry. He signed up with Star Magic in 2014 and he continued to gain fans through his impressive and show-stopping performances. In January 2015, he sang "Tell The World of His Love" during Pope Francis's visit. He has also released his own albums, “Darren” and “Be With Me”, and has been featured in other albums as well. He has performed in several concerts in the Philippines, America and Canada. He had a birthday concert at the Mall of Asia Arena, making him the youngest performer to stage a solo concert in the said venue. He regularly performs on the Sunday variety show “ASAP”.
After rising to fame by winning the second season of “The Voice of the Philippines”, Jason hasn't stopped making listeners swoon to his voice. He gave impressive performances in several Kapamilya shows like “It’s Showtime”, “Kris TV” and “Gandang Gabi Vice”. He also released a self-titled album after winning the competition, with singles such as “Caught in that Feeling”, “Milagro”, “Walang Iwanan”, and most recently “Nothing Like Pag-ibig”. Aside from singing the theme song of “Be My Lady”, he also had a recurring role in the daytime series. He is regularly seen on the Soul Sessions segment of “ASAP”.
Although Kyle didn’t win the second season of “The Voice Kids”, he still became a successful artist in his own right. He released his first solo album entitled “It’s Me Kyle” under MCA Music. He also became one of the celebrity contestants of “We Love OPM”. Aside from singing, he has also been branching out into other avenues of performance. He played Brent Wyatt, the half-brother of Leah (Nadine Lustre), on the hit primetime series “On The Wings of Love”. He also had a special appearance as Master Kundoktor in “Ako si Josephine”, the musical featuring the songs of Yeng Constantino, and became one of the main performers of “Awitin Mo at Isasayaw Ko”, a dance musical featuring the songs of VST & Co.
After joining the first season of “The Voice of the Philippines”, Morissette continues to show off her skills in performing in various TV guestings, mall tours and events. In 2014, she interpreted “Akin Ka Na Lang”, an original song composition of the Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs. She has also released her self-titled album “Morissette” with the carrier single “Di Mapaliwanag”. She also recorded the theme songs of several teleseryes and movies like “Moon of Desire”, “Two Wives”, “Flordeliza”, “Crazy Beautiful You”, “You’re Still The One”, “Pasion de Amor”, “Everything About Her”, “The Third Party” and “The Better Half”. She is a regular on “ASAP” as one of the Birit Queens. Recently, she rocked the stage at the SM Mall of Asia Arena with Klarisse de Guzman, Jona and Angeline Quinto.
Although losing in the first season of “The Voice Kids”, Sam continues to prove he has a lot more to offer. Recently, this talented cutie became one of the contestants of “Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids” and has been transforming into music icons such as Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys, MC Hammer, Prince, John Legend, Bamboo, Pink, Pepe Smith, Gary Valenciano, Elvis Presley, Kenny Rogers, Enrique Iglesias, George Michael and Freddie Mercury.
Kokoi didn't win the grand prize when he joined the reality singing competition but he definitely made waves when he sang the 2016 Halalan theme song of ABS-CBN entitled “Ipanalo ang Pamilyang Pilipino” with KZ Tandingan. The reggae singer continues to impress the tourists of Boracay with his unique voice and style.
Even though he didn’t make it to the finals of the second season of “The Voice of the Philippines”, Jason continues to pursue his passion in performing. This ex-Rivermaya frontman has been doing several song covers of famous songs and has also appeared in Kapamilya shows such as “Gandang Gabi Vice” and “It’s Showtime”. He also became a recurring character in the daytime series “Doble Kara”. Last year, he was also one of the main cast members of the local production of “American Idiot”, a rock musical featuring the songs of Green Day. He played the role of Johnny and some of his co-stars were Basti Artadi of Wolfgang and Miggy Chavez of Chicosci.
