ABS-CBN launches Philippine television’s first ever “sitcom-mentary show,” “Dok Ricky, Pedia (Pedia ng Barangay)” this Saturday (September 9), 8:30 am that aims to educate mothers on proper nutrition and childcare for growing families.
A project of the ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. (ALKFI) and the National Nutrition Council (NNC), the program features actor Dominic Ochoa, who will play a pediatrician and a single father arriving at the health clinic of the fictional Barangay Masigla to help the community care for its babies and children.
What makes the program different and special is that it will insert commentary courtesy of the NNC to further educate viewers on the importance of good health among children and tips in child-rearing.
According to the NNC, one out of four pregnant women is nutritionally at risk and 33% of children in the Philippines are stunted or short for their age, due to poor nutrition and bad habits in child care. Studies also show that malnutrition can be prevented in 1, 000 days of the child, a period when parents can bring out their child’s full potential.
Joining Dominic in the cast of this groundbreaking program are Louise Abuel, who plays his son Johann, Lotlot Bustamante as Kapitana, who initially doubts the capability of a male doctor to do the job, and Teacher Julia, played by Yen Santos. Adding to the dynamic cast of characters is Tatang, played by Raul Morit, regarded as Barangay Masigla’s wise old man, and the loveteam of Kristel Fulgar and CJ Navato, who will play Trixie and Thor.
ALKFI, is a committed advocate for public service and a manifestation of ABS-CBN’s commitment “To be in the service of the Filipino.” Since 1989, it has been at the forefront of development programs that uniquely affect strategic sectors in the Philippines – each one with distinct goals and considerable impact. ALKFI is also behind the show “G Diaries,” which promotes Philippine tourism and caring for the environment.
