Kapamilya artists’ mind-blowing renditions of Regine songs and covers

Through the years, many seasoned performers and aspiring singers look up to Asia’s Songbird, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, as one of the ultimate idols who inspire them to strive for excellence and never stop pursuing their dreams.

Apart from that, her hits also became a constant part of our lives as some of them have been among the top-picked pieces in singing contests and most favorite choices in karaoke sessions, and even as the theme song of certain movies and television series.

As she officially takes flight as a Kapamilya, we welcome her by presenting some heartfelt performances of her greatest hits and superb covers by ABS-CBN’s outstanding artists.

"Sana Maulit Muli" by Lea Salonga

Written and originally recorded by revered artist Gary Valenciano for the late singer-actress Julie Vega and translated into Filipino by his wife Angeli Pangilinan-Valenciano, “Sana Maulit Muli” was among the many songs Regine exceptionally covered from her album, Reason Enough.

Lea Salonga also made her own rendition of the popular 80s ballad, which was used as the theme song of her 1995 romantic flick with the same title opposite Aga Muhlach. Since then, the song became significant in their and the fans of their tandem’s lives. Just look how thrilled everyone were when she serenaded him during her concert at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in 2014.

“Araw Gabi” by Sarah Geronimo

The Popstar Royalty first worked with her idol when she became one of the contenders and eventual winner of the defunct singing competition, which Asia’s Songbird hosted, Star For A Night. Since then, the former has seemingly become a fixture in the latter’s shows in the past years, and vice versa.

Just like Regine, Sarah possesses an incredible singing prowess that can strike us to our hearts, such as her mellifluous take on the timeless “Araw Gabi,” a Nonoy Zuniga original sung by Regine for her album Covers.

“What Kind Of Fool Am I” by Angeline Quinto

The power belter has been very much open with her immense devotion towards her ultimate idol, who later on became her close friend and workmate in the various gigs they did together or every time they guested in each other’s shows. Now that they are at the same network, will it be possible for Angeline to sing the standard “What Kind Of Fool Am I?” (or others hits) this time with Regine on the ASAP stage? Regine sang her version for her album Listen Without Prejudice.

“On The Wings Of Love” by Kyla

On The Wings Of Love” is certainly one of the most popular songs of the “Pangako” hitmaker, a Jeffrey Osborne original that was included in her R2K album. It is not only a favorite singing contest piece, but also became the official theme song of the 2015 top-rating primetime series with same title, which was sung by Queen of RnB Kyla.

“You Are My Song” by Erik Santos

The King of Teleserye Theme Songs truly put a different flavor and vibe to this Regine hit when he was tasked to do his rendition which was used as the theme song of the Coco Martin and Julia Montes-starrer A Moment in Time in 2013.

“Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka” by Morissette

During one of her guestings in ASAP Chillout, Morisette lulled as with her heartfelt take on Regine’s classic OPM love song written by husband Ogie Alcasid. Well, a collaboration between the Asia’s Songbird and Asia’s Phoenix has been one of our greatest dreams!

"I'll Never Love This Way Again" by Jona

Another artist who had numerous chances to work with Regine, Jona was the first-ever grand winner of one of the singing contests she hosted and one of the young talents of the variety programs she headlined in another network.

On her freshman year, she was given the opportunity to cover the Dionne Warwick original “I’ll Never Love This Way Again,” which was also sung by Regine for her R2K album. Jona’s version was used as the theme song of the 2016 KathNiel movie Barcelona: A Love Untold.

“Narito Ako” by Lyca Gairanod

At a very young age, The Voice Kids Season 1 champion Lyca Gairanod already amazed us with her unbelievable singing prowess and she displayed it by performing her winning piece “Narito Ako,” which is one of Regine’s early hits.

“Tuwing Umuulan” by Jason Dy

The Voice Philippines Season 2 Grand Winner Jason Dy swooned us with his version of the Basil Valdez song “Tuwing Umuulan,” that truly thrilled us. Regine recorded her version of the song for the 2000 film, Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw, which she starred with Robin Padilla.

“Isang Lahi” by Angeline Quinto, Yeng Constantino, and Martin Nievera

With “Isang Lahi,” a song from her debut album, Regine, the OPM icon was able to express our pride as Filipinos – and this was what Angeline, Yeng Constantino, and Martin Nievera showed when they performed it during ASAP’s tour in Los Angeles, California in 2014.

With the Songbird now a Kapamilya, who’s not excited to see her grace some of our favorite ABS-CBN programs and hear her sing on the ASAP stage?
