Sino ang Maysala?: Mea Culpa (2019)
This 2019 crime drama revolved around the story of how intricate things would be once you get involved in a situation that asks you to either serve your own interest or do the rightful thing -- even if it means putting yourself in a disadvantage.
It started with the moral dilemma of a group of friends who just passed the bar exams -- Juris (Bela Padilla), Drei (Tony Labrusca), Bogs (Ketchup Eusebio), Greco (Kit Thompson), Gaylord (Sandino Martin), and Lolita (Ivana Alawi). Their celebratory trip turned out to be a traumatizing one as their oath to uphold the truth and fight for what is right and just was completely tested after they got into a horrible situation.
While they were on their way, they got themselves involved in an accident after running over a woman and instantly killing her. Knowing that owning up to the crime would jeopardize their lives and their lifelong dream of becoming full-fledged lawyers, they agreed to hide the truth by burying her body and Juris taking the responsibility of adopting baby the woman was bringing.
Little did they know that the woman, whose name is Barbara was actually member of a child trafficking syndicate and she just stole the baby from her real mother who was Fina (Jodi Sta. Maria), a simple farmer in Baguio. Their lives got entangled when their secret was unveiled after the rotting corpse was discovered at a construction site.
That sparked Fina’s intense yearning to find her long-lost beloved daughter and Juris desperate moves to hide her from her biological mom. A slew of encounters, deaths, and troubles ensued afterwards, with Fina being able to take her child back and Juris being sent to a mental health institution after getting deranged.
Hanggang Saan (2017)
Hanggang Saan captured our hearts because of the selfless love of single mother Sonya (Sylvia Sanchez) to her two sons, especially to her firstborn Paco (Arjo Atayde), who was born with a heart condition. Being a devoted mother that she was, she did everything in her ability to show her unconditional love and care for them, to the extent of doing something inhumane just to save Paco’s life.
Paco did survive, but she later on had to suffer the consequences of the crime she allegedly committed as she got incarcerated. Her being friends with Jean (Teresa Loyzaga), who was the widow of the man she “killed,” and Paco being romantically involved with Anna (Sue Ramirez), Jean’s daughter who never forgot the death of her father, further put their family’s life at risk as they got closer to the real culprit behind the bankruptcy of the insurance company and the death of Edward Lamoste (Eric Quizon) – his best friend and new partner of Jean, Jacob Montecillo (Ariel Rivera).
In the end, justice was served and Sonya got acquitted after her son-slash-lawyer proved that the bullet that killed Edward came from a different gun and Jacob paid for his crimes with his life after he got killed by Paco in a shootout.
