Today, April 17, the entire industry mourns the death of another OPM icon. Prolific songwriter and composer Willy Cruz passed away at the age of 70. He left a rich legacy of songs such as “Kumusta Ka,” “Magandang Gabi,” “May Minamahal,” “Pangarap na Bituin,” and “Bituing Walang Ningning.” He has worked with the country’s finest singers like Pilita Corrales, Hajji Alejandro, Nonoy Zuñiga, Zsa Zsa Padilla, and Nora Aunor. He also did the soundtracks of several Sharon Cuneta movies such as “Bukas Luluhod Ang Mga Tala,” “Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas,” and “Madrasta.” To commemorate his contributions throughout the years, here are some performances from various Kapamilya shows featuring the music of the one and only music legend, Maestro Willy Cruz.

#ASAPinoy featured the music of Maestro Willy Cruz on the ASAP stage. His iconic song “Bituing Walang Ningning” was performed by some of the country’s best singers including Martin Nievera, Nonoy Zuñiga, Hajji Alejandro, Erik Santos, Elha Nympha, and Darren Espanto.

Megastar Sharon Cuneta belted out “Bituing Walang Ningning” during the Live Finale of Pilipinas Got Talent Season 5.

Erik Santos also performed “Init Sa Magdamag” on #ASAPinoy with Tres Kantos, his winning team from “We Love OPM,” Bugoy Drilon, Dominador Aviola, and Jovit Baldivino.

The Voice Teens coach Sarah Geronimo sang “Sana’y Maghintay Ang Walang Hanggan” with The Voice Kids contestants Antonetthe Tismo, Ian Joseph Prelligera, and Sharla Mae Cerilles on the ASAP stage.

Concert King Martin Nievera and Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo sang “Doon Lang” and “I’ll Never Say Goodbye” with Nonoy Zuñiga on ASAP.

Queen Mother Karla Estrada performed “Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas” as Sharon Cuneta during the first season of “Your Face Sounds Familiar.”

The Rebel Rock Royalty of Your Face Sounds Familiar Season 2, Kean Cipriano, appeared on It’s Showtime as the King of Philippine Movies Fernando Poe Jr. and performed “Kumusta Ka.”
