Kapamilya celebs who gave back to disadvantaged children

It’s not just glitz and glamour or top rating TV shows or box office movies for a number of Kapamilya celebrities.
For them, giving back to the unfortunate is important, not of course to further their careers in the industry, but fulfilling personal missions and advocacies.

One particular cause is uplifting the plight of disadvantaged children, particularly those who are maltreated, physically abused and exploited. And, one organization that was established primarily to rescue, protect, and nurture these young victims has long been a chosen charity.

Bantay Bata 163, under the Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, offers a hotline to report child abuse, exploitation and neglect, conducts rescue operations in coordination with law enforcement agencies, offers counseling for child-family relationships, assists victims of child sexual exploitation.

A key project of Bantay Bata 163 is the Children’s Village in Norzagaray, Bulacan, which is relaunching to offer temporary shelter where they can heal and recover from the trauma of abuse and exploitation, and build a better future for themselves.

Here are some admirable celebrities who had since given help and assistance to Bantay Bata 163’s programs by way of donations in cash or kind, or through meaningful initiatives.

Piolo Pascual

The Ultimate Heartthrob is not only a successful, multi-awarded, and dashing celebrity, he is also generous to those who need his help. In 2009, Piolo donated several watches to Bantay Bata 163 scholars.

She held a charity event for the children for Bantay Bata during her 40th birthday celebration in 2010, which was attended by some of her showbiz friends including Chokoleit and TV host-actress Kris Aquino. In an interview, the comedienne revealed that one of the factors which made her decide to reach out the children in Bantay Bata was her memory of her eldest son who succumbed to brain cancer at the age of 5.

In 2011, Pokwang also threw a party for medical patients under Bantay Bata’s care.

Michael Pangilinan

When Michael Pangilinan placed first runner up on Your Face Sounds Familiar Season 2 in 2015, he donated a total of P100,000 from his winnings to Bantay Bata 163.

Teddy Corpuz and Jugs Jugueta

Teddy Corpuz and Jugs Jugueta had a winning streak on It’s Showtime’s Magpasikat from 2013-2015, collaborating with fellow hosts Karylle, Billy Crawford and Vice Ganda through those years. Every time they won the top prize during those years, they would donate around P100,000 to P150,000 from their cash prizes to Bantay Bata 163.

Star Magic Ball 2017 attendees

In what is considered as the heftiest celebrity donation to Bantay Bata 163 is the accumulated endowment from attendees to the 11th Star Magic Ball in 2017 that amounted to P1 million in celebration of the charity’s 20th anniversary. Ultimate Heartthrob Piolo Pascual led the artists in bestowing the donation.

What’s even more exciting is that this year’s ball, rechristened as the ABS-CBN Ball, will be entirely for the benefit of Bantay Bata 163 Children’s Village.
