They are brave. They are tough. They are also oozing with charm and talent. Six real-life policemen will compete to be the first Grand Winner of "Gwapulis," a competition launched by ABS-CBN morning program "Umagang Kay Ganda" (UKG) to promote appreciation for the country's courageous and hardworking law enforcers.
Besting other semifinalists, the grand finalists are: "Singing Police ng Camp Bagong Diwa" PO1 Norman Wileman III, "Dancing Police ng Valenzuela City" PO1 Willy Quinto, “Rakiterong Parak ng Rodriguez Rizal” PO1 Mark Florence Iglesias, "Mr. P.O. Simpatiko ng La Union" PO1 Dennis Keliag, "Hottie Officer ng Caloocan" PO1 Mark Christian Sioco, and "Dad Bod officer ng Rizal" PO3 Ernesto Dingcong, Jr.
The six gentlemen are ready to showcase their striking looks, great personality, and awesome talent in front of their fellow policemen in the grand finals to be held at the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters, Camp Crame on Friday (October 14).
PNP chief Dir. Gen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa and veteran ABS-CBN broadcast journalist Gus Abelgas will be judging the finalists, who will be performing live in front of their fellow policemen and millions of Filipinos on television and online.
The segment was launched at the heels of the rising popularity of ABS-CBN teleserye “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.” “UKG” also noticed the victories of cops Neil Perez and Don Macgyver Cochico, in pageants.
The segment also got the approval of the PNP chief, who saw its potential to show that law enforcers, while keeping their integrity and honor intact, can also be endearing to the people.
