The Loyzaga Clan is the current talk of the town for two very different reasons. Just last January 27, the family patriarch, Carlos Loyzaga, died at the age of 85. His grandson, Diego Loyzaga, has exemplified great acting in ABS-CBN's primetime drama “Pangako Sa'yo
” as the teleserye comes to a close. These two personalities are separated by generations of Loyzaga figures, both in the world of entertainment and arena of basketball.
Carlos is recognized as the greatest Filipino basketball player of all time. The 6-foot-3 was part of the Philippine national basketball team that won 4 Asian Games titles (1951, 1954, 1958, 1962), got a bronze medal in the 1954 FIBA World Championship, and grabbed gold in two FIBA Asia Championships (1954 and 1963). The legend was also the head coach of the national team that won the 1967 FIBA Asia. He was survived by his wife Vicky Cuerva and four kids: basketball players Chito and Joey and actresses Bing and Teresa.
Both Chito (born Joaquin) and Joey (Ernesto Jose) played for San Beda College in the National Collegiate Athletic Association before going on to play professional basketball in the Philippine Basketball Association. Chito was a seven-time recipient of the Philippine Basketball Association All-Defensive Team award (1985-1987 and 1989-1992) and played for the Philippine national basketball team in the 1990 Asian Games. Chito is married to Maritoni Yulo, with whom he has three children, namely: Celina, Jose Joaquin, and Cecilia.
Joey played for played for Magnolia, Swift, Shell, Ginebra San Miguel, and Alaska. He dated Gretchen Barretto in the 80s and they lived together for almost a decade.
Actress Bing Loyzaga is known for the films "Rubi"

mainstay Melissa Gibbs.
Like his sister, Teresa Loyzaga also ventured in the entertainment industry as a movie and teleserye actress. Diego Loyzaga, most known for his role as David in the primetime drama series "Pangako Sa'yo
," is his son with action star Cesar Montano. The young actor reprised the role of the late Rico Yan in the series Mara Clara in 2011 after moving back to the Philippines from Australia.
Diego has a brother named Joseph from his mother's former marriage to businessman Arnold Dizon. He has three sisters, namely: Angeline Isabelle, Samantha Angeline, and Angel Francheska, from his father’s former marriage with actress Sunshine Cruz.
