5 Convincing Reasons Why “Lethal Weapon” is a TV Must-See!

Ready for action-packed weekend nights? Lethal Weapon is coming and the irreconcilable yet prolific buddy cops Martin Riggs (Clayne Crawford) and Roger Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) are back to give us one awesome ride once more in facing the filthiest scums in society. Lethal Weapon is a TV action series derived from the classic blockbuster four-film franchise with the same title that dominated the box office in the 80s and 90s that starred Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. Given the success of the film version, who wouldn’t eagerly await its TV adaptation? Here are the five convincing reasons why we should!

1. Gorgeous, brilliant cast

Yes, they are very good looking, but the cast’s brilliant credentials make the show all the more exciting to watch. Pairing well-seasoned funnyman Damon Wayans with serious actor Clayne Crawford was really unimaginable. Coming from a family of entertainers, Damon’s gigs since the 80s were all comedy – from stand-up, sitcoms, sketches, and movies – some of these were Saturday Night Live, In Living Colour, and My Wife and Kids. Meanwhile, Clayne is more on to serious acting stints and you might already saw him in the movie A Walk To Remember and TV series such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, CSI, 24, Law and Order, and The Glades. Now that Damon is the stern killjoy and Clayne is the comical, edgy, devil-may-care maverick, this generation’s Riggs and Murtaugh are TV characters worth our couch time. Lethal Weapon also has impressive supporting actors. They include Keesha Sharp (Trisha Murtaugh), Hilarie Burton (Karen Palmer), Jordana Brewster (Maureen Cahill), and Kevin Rahm (Captain Brooks Avery). They are familiar faces, having appeared in numerous popular TV shows and movies, not to mention Keesha who played a significant role in the Laurice Guillen-helmed Pinoy flick American Adobo and Jordana, who has appeared in the Fast and the Furious franchise.

2. Enticing story

Just like the film rendition, the reboot tells the story of two incompatible police detectives working together in solving the crimes in and around Los Angeles, California. Martin, a former Navy Seal from El Paso, Texas who’s suffering from depression following his pregnant wife’s demise found a new life as he transfers to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Robbery-Homicide Division as a police officer. He is partnered with veteran detective Roger, who returns to service after suffering from a severe heart attack. The storyline may be familiar, but new twists and identifiable scenarios will make it a sure blast among present viewers. Thus audiences, especially action enthusiasts, can certainly find something different in this adaptation. Astonishingly, this well-written and well-produced remake is definitely a joy to watch.

3. Mismatched buddy cops to give us thrills and laughs

Martin and Roger may be polar opposites. Their huge age difference and opposing personalities resulted them to have dissimilar strategies in defeating the bad guys. Martin is extremely free-spirited – willing to break the standard operational procedures and take personal risks. On the other hand, Roger is conservative -- often sticks with the conventional way of tackling every case. Despite their regular one-upmanship, the buddy cops still gets the job done successfully at the end of the day. Aside from their awesome stunts and dexterity in using weapons, we will surely admire their tandem for their sense of humor and incessant banters.

4. Insane car chases, jaw-dropping explosions

Our jaws will surely drop once we witness all those insane car chases and explosions in Lethal Weapon. Shot in some of the picturesque places in California, Lethal Weapon is truly a visual treat for all of us with those mind-blowing special effects and stunts rarely seen on TV. It will be an experience like no other, as it seems to bring us right into the action.

5. Intense fight scenes, exhilarating gun battles

Intense and gritty fight scenes, exhilarating gun battles will really leave viewers on the edge of their seats as Martin and Roger face their adversaries. Lethal Weapon will offer more than a fair amount of action for a police series akin to major big budgeted Hollywood action films.

Get ready for explosive Saturday nights with Lethal Weapon, premiering on June 10 at 10:00pm on ABS-CBN.
