Last Wednesday night on Till I Met You, Ali (JC Santos) admitted to his bestfriend Iris (Nadine Lustre) that he is gay and he is falling in love with Basti (James Reid).
During the press conference for the teleserye, he shared that he’s fine with playing gay characters both for film and television and he’s not afraid to be typecast in these roles. He said “'I don’t mind. I’m fine. Okay naman ako eh, basta gusto ko yung role, game!”
JC is in a three-year relationship with his beautiful and talented girlfriend, Teetin Villanueva, who is a theater, TV and film actress.
Today, we will list down 4 more gay characters in Kapamilya teleseryes played by straight actors.
Andres "Andrei" Alegre Jr. (The Greatest Love)
Matt Evans plays Andrei, the gay son of Gloria Guerrero-Alegre (Sylvia Sanchez), uncle of Z (Joshua Garcia), and the brother of Amanda (Dimples Romana), Paeng (Arron Villaflor) and Lizelle (Andi Eigenmann), in the newest afternoon series The Greatest Love.
During the press conference of the teleserye last July 14, he shared his preparations for the role. Even after playing gay roles in “Must Date the Playboy”, “Pare Mahal Mo Raw Ako” and “The Reunion”, he said “Ito po ang pinaka-challenging sa lahat po ng ginawa ko. Kasi the rest po, kaya ko po tinanggap kasi light, romantic comedy… [Ito] napakahirap po kasi heavy drama po itong gagawin ko at medyo kailangan ko po talaga ng immersion.”
In real life, Matt is happily married to his wife Katrina Fariñas and they have three children, Hayden Tyler, Hayley Marley and Harper Madison. He also had a child with his former partner, Johnelline Hickins.
Narciso "Nars" Malvar (Be My Lady)
MJ Cayabyab plays Nars, the gay colleague and bestfriend of Pinang (Erich Gonzales) in the top-rating daytime series Be My Lady.
Because of his very believable portrayal, viewers thought that MJ is also gay in real life. During his guesting on the morning talk show Magandang Buhay, he cleared that he is actually straight in real life. 1 | 2
