“Pinoy Dream Academy” was the Philippine version of Endemol’s “Star Academy” (or “Operación Triunfo”/”Operation Triumph”). It is a reality show that has a very similar format like “Pinoy Big Brother” where scholars lived inside the Academy for a few months as they went through training from their teachers and other performers while being monitored 24/7.
The first season began on August 27, 2006 and the hosts were Nikki Gil, Toni Gonzaga, Roxanne Barcelo, Bianca Gonzalez and Sam Milby. The second season began on June 14, 2018 and the hosts were Nikki Gil, Toni Gonzaga and Billy Crawford. For the first season, the Headmaster was APO Hiking Society’s Jim Paredes and the Grand Star Dreamer was Yeng Constantino while for the second season, the Headmaster was Maestro Ryan Cayabyab and the Grand Star Dreamer was Laarni Losala.
Last Sunday, August 7, some “Pinoy Dream Academy” scholars were reunited on the “ASAP” stage. They were Panky Trinidad, Ronnie Liang, Jay-R Siaboc and Davey Langit, all from the show’s first season. Today, let us get to know some of the scholars and their life after “Pinoy Dream Academy”. 1 | 2
1. Panky Trinidad
After “Pinoy Dream Academy”, Panky was chosen to be one of the representatives of the Philippine Team for the 2008 World Championship of the Performing Arts, and she competed for the senior division. She received several awards and was cited as Champion of the World for the Vocal R&B/Soul/Jazz for the 16-24. She also performed in several cities in Europe last 2009.
2. Ronnie Liang
Ronnie was the voice behind the hit single “Ngiti”, which was used in the John Lloyd Cruz-Sarah Geronimo movie “A Very Special Love”. He has also appeared in several Kapamilya shows like “ASAP”, “Your Song: Salamat”, “I Love Betty La Fea” and films like “Esoterika Manila” and “Mano Po 4: Ako Legal Wife”. He recently performed in the stage musical “Bituing Walang Ningning”.
3. Jay-R Siaboc
Jay-R had several hit singles like “Hiling” and “May Tama Ako”. He was paired with Maja Salvador after being the first runner-up of “Pinoy Dream Academy”. He also appeared in several Kapamilya shows like “ASAP”, “Pangarap na Bituin”, “Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara”, “Palos”, “Komiks Presents Kapitan Boom”, “Kambal sa Uma” and “Imortal”. He recently surrendered to the police authorities in Cebu. He admitted using illegal drugs before but he denied his participation in illegal transactions of selling them.
4. RJ Jimenez
RJ was the voice behind the hit song. “Miss Kita ‘Pag Tuesday”. He also had a duet song with Yeng Constantino entitled “If We Fall In Love”, which was used as the theme song of the Koreanovela “Princess Hours”. He released an album under Star Records entitled “RJ JMNZ” in 2006. He then became a songwriter, music producer, stage actor and musical director. He also wrote the song “Nagkakulay ang Mundo” for Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo which was used in their 2013 movie “Must Be Love”.
