Beauty pageants are known as platforms wherein the contestants are able to expose their splendor and wit and promote their advocacies concerning social and environmental issues. But being involved in this kind of feat also paved the way for some of Filipinas to enter the exciting and glitzy world of show business, where they became more notable because of their impressive acting and hosting prowess.
One of them is Alice Dixson.
Born to an American father and a Filipino mother, she initially captivated us with her unmistakable beauty and sophistication as one of the Binibining Pilipinas 1986 titleholders and representing the country in the Miss International competition held on that same year where she scored a spot in the Top 15.
She might be unlucky, but it was reciprocated by a booming career in the local entertainment scene, which started in her unforgettable stint in beauty soap commercial.
Catapulting her to immense stardom was her iconic role in the classic fantasy sitcom Okay Ka, Fairy Ko! broadcast in ABS-CBN from 1989 to 1995. She portrayed Faye, a fairy and the sole heir of Ina Magenta for the throne of Engkantasya who gradually imbibed the life of being a mortal when she fell in love with and became the wife of the lowly earthling Enteng, played by veteran actor-comedian Vic Sotto.
However, in the height of her career, the 48-year-old actress stepped out of the limelight and lived a peaceful life in Canada. Thus, many were thrilled to see her again on her comeback TV projects in recent years.
This year, Alice appeared on the Kapamilya channel in the ever-growing ensemble of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano to personify the intermeddler Second Lady of the Philippines, wife of Vice President Lucas Cabrera (Edu Manzano) and the domineering yet loving mother of the psychopath Marco (JC Santos), Catherine Cabrera.
And just recently, it was revealed that Alice would also be a part of the powerhouse cast of the upcoming primetime series and the highly-anticipated first teleserye team-up of Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto, Ngayon at Kailanman, wherein she will portray the mom of Joshua and Jameson Blake’s characters in the series.
