While an illicit affair is undoubtedly a serious crime, it is just hard not to acknowledge how Gabriel (Sam Milby) has proven himself to be a dutiful father despite his imperfections. In this Toplist, we rounded up the scenes proving that Gabriel is a good father to Hope (Kira Balinger) and Jake (Grae Fernandez) in Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin.
Taken from the metaphorical phrase “pillar of the household,” a father is expected to protect his family, especially the kids, under a canopy of human principles such as honesty and loyalty. But even the fathers we look up to as heroes aren’t blameless. Gabriel, for instance, made mistakes to the point of destroying the life of the daughter he’s supposed to nurture.
Yet, no matter how imperfect, he learned to own up to his mistakes and make reparations starting with his wife, Ellice (Iza Calzado), whom he betrayed by having a one-night stand with her best friend Marissa (Jodi Sta. Maria). His selfless move did not only rekindle their relationship but also repaired the broken heart of their daughter, Hope, who was the happiest about the reconciliation. He would support Ellice in her endeavors, knowing that Hope will be delighted to see him treat his wife with affection.
Despite the marital woes that crushed the Villarosa household, Gabriel promised that he will never make the same mistakes towards Hope and Jake, who Marissa introduced as their love child. The circumstances challenged his strength in uniting the kids but he successfully did.
He did his best to bridge the gap between his children. And the first step was to get to know Jake, who he only met after seventeen years. As a father, Gabriel finds joy even in the mundane such as when he asked Jake to start calling him ‘dad’ and while watching Jake and Hope bond with their aunt Cristina (Jef Gaitan).
He knew Hope was hurt by the explosive revelation about him having an affair and a son but he knew things will never fall back into place by hiding the truth. He moved heaven and earth to keep the siblings bonded. It was touching to see them basking in familial bliss while looking at a painting.
He taught his kids that it is always honorable and right to speak the truth even if it cuts deep. He said it is the biggest lesson life made him learn the hard way. Betrayal hurts deeper than anything else. He also proved the power of forgiveness.
However, after the efforts to rebuild the love, connection, and happy times, Gabriel met one of the most devastating ordeals a father dreads. His children went in hiding and were put in grave danger.
