Truth hurts, they say, and it gets extremely heart-breaking when it involves the people you love and supposed to make you feel loved in return. Hope (Kira Balinger) from Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin knows exactly this pain as she discovers the truth about her father, Gabriel (Sam Milby), sharing a past and a child with Marissa (Jodi Sta. Maria).
Hope’s parents, Ellice (Iza Calzado) and Gabriel, tried to hide the truth from her, knowing how it could potentially break her heart. But their seemingly quiet world was shattered when Marissa resurfaced after 17 years. Amid the heightening chaos, Hope accidentally heard Ellice and Gabriel’s conversation, bringing all the secrets and lies out in the open.
Putting the pieces together, she finally understood the reasons behind her parents’ rocky relationship all those years.
The revelation affected her so much at home and in school that she seemed distracted all the time. She once burst into anger and tears in school but thankfully found comfort in Jake (Grae Fernandez), whom she’d soon fall out with.
Hope declared her resentment over Gabriel’s actions, his other son, and every piece of betrayal she’s come to know. She said she would never want to meet Marissa and her child with Gabriel, let alone acknowledge their connections to them. They are the people who ruined her family.
But as more shams pile up, the harder it becomes to swallow the truth once the deceit breaks. Hope discovered that Jake is her half-brother. And she hated him even more for knowing yet keeping it a secret all along. She felt betrayed once again.
While Gabriel gives his word that he will never leave his family, Hope is too appalled to be trustful again. She said it wouldn’t be easy to let Jake in her life as a brother. Perhaps it will take more time and healing, or maybe the sense of acceptance is a rare thing when the heart is embittered and broken.
Instead of healing from the pain, Hope resorted to rebellion. There was an episode where she went to a bar with RJ (Karl Gabriel) to escape her problems. Luckily, Jake arrived to save her from trouble and bring her home.
The drinking incident led to an intense confrontation at the Villarosa residence. Hope’s emotions ran high over the family affair and unleashed her wrath towards Gabriel.
The angsty behavior did not stop there. Poor Hope tried to drown her frustrations by drinking with RJ once again, in his place this time, leading to another emotional exchange among the Villarosa family.
Hope arrived wasted and completely devastated. The scene turned into a dramatic confrontation as Hope vents out all her pain, showing her parents Marissa’s malicious post on social media bragging about Gabriel and Jake’s father-son moment and calling them her “happy family.” The truth still breaks her heart and she can’t get over the pain, not even Ellice’s loving assurance or Gabriel’s apology can make her feel better.
