A series of crippling loss happened before Ellice (Iza Calzado) had a healthier baby who would grow up as the beautiful and brave Hope (Kira Balinger) that’s why she will do everything in her power to protect her daughter from everyone she perceives as a threat, especially Jake (Grae Fernandez), the son of her nemesis.
Hate at first sight happens but to loathe someone even before meeting them is even more visceral. Ellice already heard nasty rumors about Jake’s reputation even before seeing him in the flesh. She despised him all the more upon learning that he is Gabriel (Sam Milby)’s son with Marissa (Jodi Sta. Maria).
Seeing Hope’s closeness with Jake, the distrustful Ellice started to forbid her daughter from getting near him again. She’d call it motherly love. However she tries to deny, it’s obvious that the hate is rooted in unresolved issues of the past.
Ellice would call him names including bastard. She also tagged him as a bad influence to Hope when the latter talked back one time, in denial of her unpleasant transformation since welcoming Belen (Rita Avila) back in her life.
There was also a scene where she caught Jake inside Hope’s room, apparently, with Gabriel’s permission. Hope backed up Jake’s explanation. But the attempt to defend his side only triggered Ellice’s wrath, leading up to a jaw-breaking slap and cruel words delivered unto him. Gabriel tried to meddle and repeated that Jake was only there to help Hope with her school works. Nothing soothed Ellice’s anger. She said she’d rather watch Hope fail in her subjects than allow her to see Jake again.
The two did not listen, though. They kept on seeing each other until the night when Hope failed to come home on time, thus keeping Ellice worried. The incident led to another round of falling-out between Ellice and Marissa.
Bent on driving Jake away from Hope, thinking he will only bring her harm, Ellice filed a temporary restraining order against Jake. Despite Gabriel’s pleas, she was still determined to put Jake in his rightful place and said she will not hesitate to have him arrested once she tries to get near Hope again.
Tables will turn, however. In the next episodes, Ellice would be the one to ask for a favor from Jake and his mom, Marissa, for the sake of Hope.
