Only a man as tough yet soothing as Avel (Joseph Marco) will be the worthy pair of a woman as fierce as Marissa (Jodi Sta. Maria). They are comparable to the strong ocean wave that slows down as it meets the shore. As they now go through heart-stopping challenges side by side, here’s a little breather specially made for solid MarVel shippers. We rounded up Marissa and Avel’s most ‘kilig’ moments in this Toplist from Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin.
Their electrifying chemistry shined on their first love-hate encounter, which we chalked up to pure kismet. Marissa hired Avel as her bodyguard. While he was quite mysterious, as though hiding something up his sleeve, he also showed impressive fighting abilities since the beginning. He served Marissa with solid loyalty and he was protective of her.
Slow but pure kilig happens every time he saves her from grave danger. There was a scene where Avel knocked down a group of clubgoers who tried to harass Marissa. Add to that the moment where quickly rescued her from an attack and fired at the gunman, keeping himself focused after the world came to a stop as they exchanged meaningful stares. He offered her his jacket, igniting teases from Tutti (Brenda Mage).
His sharp logic is an effective antidote to her heightened emotions. When Marissa decided to call for a ceasefire after Hope (Kira Balinger) was rushed to the hospital, Avel was caught smiling over the surprising display of ‘softness.’ She did not like his reaction, trying not to break her tough façade, so the scene ended in another cute argument.
The dashing savior once disarmed a bomb while Marissa and the employees of La Sierra evacuate the building. Such is the length he is willing to go to protect his ‘madam.’ Marissa ran towards the hero as he came out of the building safe and uninjured. She was worried and close to touching him until she came to her senses. Marissa scolded Avel and walked inside the building but it was too late to remove the traces of concern she unknowingly displayed.
Marissa also found a shoulder to cry on. In times of despair and confusion, there was Avel to soothe her fears. While he once connived with Caesar (Simon Ibarra) in the organization, Avel grew real feelings for Marissa. At the last minute, he had a change of heart and chose to still save her from the car explosion supposed to end her life.
The doubts were vanished by a sincere confession. Avel told Marissa that he loves her. He promised that whatever happens, he will always be around. He will watch over her in secret, “Nandiyan lang ako sa tabi, nagbabantay sa’yo.” The sweet conversation ended with Avel and Marissa holding hands.
There’s also a scene that proved Marissa’s charm never fades. At that ‘haba ng hair’ moment, Avel scolded her for wearing revealing clothes in a drinking session with Blue (Nico Antonio). He was jealous and she liked seeing him act overprotective.
Like a true knight in shining armor, Avel arrives just right on time when Marissa is in need of rescue and a shoulder to cry on. She knew he’s the one she needed when Jake (Grae Fernandez) started to go missing. She found comfort in his arms, as though that embrace is the only cure to her fears. Surprisingly, she listens to him. She heeded his advice to halt her plans against Ellice (Iza Calzado). Marissa, known as fire that keeps burning, mellows down because of Avel.
