Kapamilya Spotlight: Sam Milby’s rise from PBB housemate to bankable leading man

From astounding us with his compelling portrayal in a controversial series last year, Sam Milby stars in another sure-fire drama that has been the talk of the town ever since its teaser was released early this year – Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin.

But before we get to meet his newest Gabriel Villarosa, let’s take a look back on his remarkable television journey from being a popular reality show contestant to becoming one of the most in-demand leading men in Philippine showbiz, via this Kapamilya Spotlight feature.

As we all know, his ticket to the industry was when he became one of housemates of the inaugural season of Pinoy Big Brother in 2005. He may have failed to make it until the end of the competition, but his good looks, irresistible charm, and impressive talent have won over the hearts of the people.

He went on to appear in a slew of ABS-CBN programs, scoring a regular gig in ASAP as one of its hosts and performers since 2006. He had his acting debut in Star Magic Presents: Tender Loving Care and later on got cast in the classic romance drama Maging Sino Ka Man playing JB Roxas, the love interest of Anne Curtis’ character Celine Magsaysay. Sam reprised his role on its sequel Maging Sino Ka Man: Ang Pagbabalik released in 2007.

In 2008, she got reunited with Anne in the fantaserye Dyosa portraying the two-faced character Prinisipe Adonis. A year after, she was paired with then Kapamilya newcomer Angel Locsin in the Filipino adaptation of the Korean hit rom-com series Only You, playing Theodore “TJ” Javier Jr. He also appeared in May Bukas Pa as one of its innumerable guest actors.

The 36-year-old actor then got included in two teleseryes in 2010. The first one was Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Impostor, the TV rework of the Pinoy romance novel of the same name, wherein he depicted the lead male protagonist Anthony Florencio. The second was the musical drama 1DOL, wherein his character Vince Serrano figured in a love triangle with the roles played Sarah Geronimo and Coco Martin. A year after, he had a special participation in 100 Days To Heaven as toy company executive Roel Villanueva.

Sam once again appeared in two dramas in 2013, namely Kahit Konting Pagtingin and Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala. He headlined the former alongside Angeline Quinto and Paulo Avelino as he portrayed one of the lead male protagonists Adam Ledesma. Meanwhile, the latter helped him expose his flair as an effectual antagonist as he took on the role of Eros Diomedes, the abusive husband of Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo’s character Anessa Panaligan.

He got reunited with his former loveteam and ex-flame Anne Curtis in the 2014 TV incarnation of the classic Pinoy comic book and movie Mars Ravelo’s Dyesebel. He played the role of Liro, the loyal merman friend of the titular character who risked his life in order to save her.

In 2015, he delighted us with his stints in two Kapamilya dramas – Nathaniel and Doble Kara. He appeared as Anghel Armen in the former, and as one of the love interests of Julia Montes’ Kara named Seb Acosta in the latter.

After portraying laidback characters in his most recent stints, Sam definitely astonished us with his performance as a womanizing husband and abusive partner Ace Corpuz in the highly talked about 2018 primetime series Halik.

Aside from these teleseryes, he also appeared in a few episodes of weekly drama anthologies Your Song Presents and Maalaala Mo Kaya and top-billed the iWant Original Series “The Tapes” opposite Yassi Pressman early this year, portraying a police officer named Sonny Cruz.

And now, he’s set to make us fall in love with him again in the upcoming drama Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin, which will be released on the Kapamilya Channel and Kapamilya Online Live starting on August 17!
