Joseph Marco starts the year with positivity, gratitude and new role for Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin

The long wait is finally over for Joseph Marco’s loyal fanatics. After much teasing, his character Avel was introduced in last week’s episode of Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin and everyone’s eager to get to know the guy more.

The Kapamilya hunk would struggle to describe his character, itching to tell more yet bent on keeping the mystery. In a nutshell, Avel is a new addition to Team Marissa (Jodi Sta. Maria) as her bodyguard. But, in keeping up with the series’ taste for all things intriguing and explosive, there’s definitely more to Avel than being just the scorned woman’s protector.

Joseph is grateful for this project. Not only he’s playing an “interesting” and challenging character but he’s also blessed with a passionate collaboration with some of the industry’s finest gems. Working with the likes of Jodi Sta. Maria, Iza Calzado, Sam Milby, screen veteran Maricel Soriano, and even young stars Grae Fernandez and Kira Balinger is a huge feat for him.

He would talk about the Diamond Star’s motherly care. He called Iza “one of the boys” and awe-inspiring. It isn’t his first time working with Sam and he found a ‘bro’ in him. On Jodi, the actor said nothing much has changed since their first time working together. She’s still the same happy girl, always easy to get along with, passionate, and excellent. He would always look forward to their scenes.

They are a happy family inside their taping bubble, so he feels comfortable than pressured. He knows he’d learn a lot from such an all-star cast. On working in the ‘new normal,’ Joseph actually likes the setup. He thinks it’s more rewarding and it pushes everyone to perform better. It’s also less daunting for the actors and the production crew.

“Mahirap siya but at the same time makikita mo na mas nagkakaisa ‘yung team, so it’s very rewarding. You just have to see the good in every situation. Lock-in for two weeks, talagang nakatutok ka doon sa character mo,” he mused on.

The changes seem welcome. For Joseph, working sans the typical village (glam team, personal assistant, and driver) inspires him to be more independent and appreciative of the little things. “It’s very humbling. To be honest, wala na akong driver, so I drive for myself which is nice kasi every time I drive, nagkakaroon ako ng time to meditate. It’s just you and the car, ang dami mong iniisip but at the same time matututo ka talaga, eh.”

Joseph is currently enjoying his holiday break but he’s all geared up for another round of taping. When he goes back to work, he’ll be bringing with him all the lessons from the preceding year which is all about keeping a never-say-die attitude.

“There is no assurance to everything. Dapat naa-absorb natin kung anuman ‘yung dumarating sa atin. Kailangan nating lumaban. Hindi tayo pwedeng mag-give up easily. Better days will come talaga. If masama ‘yung nangyari kahapon, there’s always another day. Always be positive in life. Keep on grinding and laban lang talaga,” expressed Joseph.

With this strong positivity, the sky’s the limit for the Kapamilya leading man. We know his dreams like doing a zombie film is just right around the corner, waiting to happen.

Better not miss an episode of Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin, created by Dindo C. Perez and Julie Anne R. Benitez and directed by FM Reyes and Avel Sunpongco, airing every Monday to Friday on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, and A2Z Channel 11.
