Iza Calzado dares Sam Milby to a Filipino word quiz!

As the “Buwan ng Wika” celebration continues, we give honor to the rich Filipino vocabulary with this test called “FilipiKnow Challenge.” In this fun and informative game, Kapamilya celebrities familiarize their tongues with native or little known Filipino words. Hunk actor Sam Milby puts his knowledge to the test while his Ang Sa Iyo ay Akin co-star Iza Calzado serves as the quiz master.

Sam started his showbiz career by joining Pinoy Big Brother fifteen years ago. The FilAm heartthrob only had a limited Tagalog vocabulary at that time. But as soon as he ventured into acting, Sam bit by bit improved his Tagalog skills.

Iza presents the first terminology – durungawan. The choices were larawan and bintana. Taking a wild guess, Sam surprisingly picks the right answer. Durungawan comes from the root word dungaw, which we often do out of a window.

It gets trickier in the second round – sambat – which means either lubid or tinidor. Sam thinks of the words’ English translations and tries to figure what they’re synonymous to. The analysis seems effective as Sam gets the correct answer – tinidor. Iza explains that sambat is the native term for fork as opposed to the Spanish derived word tinidor.

The actor, who claims that he is already a dalubhasa or genius in speaking the national language, gains another score by matching the term naninibugho to its right meaning – nagseselos. He likewise knows that marikit refers to a pretty woman. Why wouldn’t he if he has the most marikit woman in the universe as girlfriend?

Did you take on the quiz and got a perfect score like Sam? What other native Filipino words do you know?
