Maika Rivera reacts to her scenes in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, shares how she pulls off sexy kontrabida role

Maika Rivera’s character Cassandra in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano is comparable to a rose – irresistible but has thorns that can wound. Find out how the actress pulls off her sexy kontrabida role as she reacts to her scenes in the teleserye via this edition of Kapamilya React.

The first clip shows one of Maika’s earliest scenes in the show. She was introduced as Lily (Lorna Tolentino)’s protégé when it comes to villainy, tasked to seduce the imposter Mariano (Rowell Santiago) as part of a bigger plan.

Maika admitted to feeling nervous during her first scene with Lorna. But she’s thankful that the veteran actress and other co-stars were generous and patient. To prove herself worthy of the spot, Maika makes sure to report on set well-prepared.

She re-watched old episodes to review where Lily’s motive comes from, and how the other actors perform so she can keep up with them. Add to that her willingness to experiment for the role. FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano came when she needed it the most, thus doing her best to take care of this huge blessing.

The next scene shows Cassandra seducing Mariano to take information about his plans with Renato (John Arcilla). Playing a temptress, Maika is expected to make her portrayal look so hot that sometimes she feels uncomfortable watching herself on TV, “Minsan po ‘pag nanonood ako, parang gusto kong takpan mata ko.”

There are scenes where she and Rowell would play kinky ala Hollywood’s “50 Shades of Grey.” They use props like handcuffs and whip to suggest how bold Cassandra can get to work on her mission. Maika shared that it was her first time holding a handcuff so she had to learn how it works.

One of her favorite scenes is where she was holding a rose while enticing Mariano, who was tied up to a bed. Maika revealed that it was Direk Rowell’s suggestion to have his character tied up. They have developed good dynamics as co-actors, thus the genuine chemistry. “Nagtatrabaho po talaga kasi kami together so it comes naturally na rin po na dahil Tito ko si Direk, he really encourages me,” shared Maika.

She’s learning from him the importance of give-and-take like in a scene where Mariano acted scared of Cassandra threatening to leave if he fails to deliver his promises. Maika saw how authentic Direk Rowell’s reaction was, so she was motivated to keep up.

Maika added that wearing skimpy dresses and high heels add to the challenge. As a sporty girl, she’s into rubber shoes in real life. But she’s willing to try anything for the role. Another challenging part of being a sexy kontrabida is doing catfights.

Her character is pitted with Ellen, played by Ara Mina. She recalled doing their first catfight scene. Maika said Ara asked if she wanted to make the slap real, to which she replied, “Okay lang po sa akin. Sanay na po akong masaktan.” She wouldn’t mind getting hurt to satisfy the viewers. While the slap was intense and real, Ara made sure to check up on her after the take.

Working with seasoned thespians, Maika learned that it’s okay to make mistakes because if taken with the right perspective, mistakes can also be an opportunity to learn.

Maika teased fans to watch out for exciting twists about her character and the series which recently opened a new chapter. Don’t miss an episode of action-drama series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, weeknights, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, and A2Z.
