FPJAP Toplist Lily’s greed & treachery

It was in the sixth season of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano that premiered in September 2018 when the character of Lily Ann Cortez, brilliantly portrayed by veteran actress Lorna Tolentino, was introduced to the viewers. She was the “bag lady” – or the one tasked to collect money from drug lords in exchange of their protection – during the administration of then-president Lucas Cabrera (Edu Manzano).

However, from simply being a minion of Lucas and his then secretary Renato Hipolito (John Arcilla), we’ve witnessed how she has evolved into one of the most notorious and most despicable villains who betrayed our mighty hero Cardo Dalisay (Coco Martin) and his group Task Force Agila (formerly Vendetta) and put their lives in peril a number of times.

And in this episode of Kapamilya Toplist, let’s revisit the instances when Lily got into our nerves because of how greedy and treacherous she has been to everyone around her.

Lily’s hunger for money, which they failed to satisfy, prompted her to ditch the Cabrera administration. That didn’t sit well with Lucas, of course, so he ordered his son Brandon (Mark Anthony Fernandez) to hunt her down. The latter’s henchmen failed to kill her after she was saved by Vendetta, who she eventually discovered was taking care of President Oscar Hidalgo (Rowell Santiago) after his family died in an ambush.

She came up with the plan of making Vendetta and Cabrera clash, which she thought would pave the way for her to return in her old ways. His first step was to tell Renato about Vendetta’s hideout, which ensued to a police raid that the rebel group was able to escape. Lily took them in her own hideout and even gave them weapons and supplies for their special mission, without them knowing that she’s just using them for her personal gains.

Aside from Renato and the Vendetta, she also succeeded in luring President Hidalgo with her wit, charm, and coyness, to which he eventually fell in love. While the statesman is morally upright and genuinely serves his countrymen, Lily is extremely corrupt and selfish as she doesn’t think of anyone but herself. She even fooled the unsuspecting and smitten Oscar a lot of times – such as pretending to be concerned of the country’s welfare – in order to further win his favor and admiration, which would make it easier for her to attain her wicked goals.

And she succeeded as Oscar tied the knot with her not long after and made her his First Lady. Just when he thought that he was given a blessing of a new wife, it went on to be a curse as Lily betrayed him by having him take drugs that caused him to be sick and frail. This was after he confronted her regarding her involvement with Lazaro (Gardo Versoza), as reported by his Chief of Staff Retired Gen. Diana Olegario (Angel Aquino) and National Security Adviser Retired Gen. Delfin Borja (Jaime Fabregas).

She and Renato were able to execute their plan of holding control of the administration by hiring Oscar’s look-alike Mariano as the dummy president. Being power-hungry that they both are, their partnership abruptly ended as they both aimed for the highest position in the country for the next elections. In order to surely defeat Renato, Lily forged allegiance with Don Guillermo (Tommy Abuel), powerful businessman and political kingpin of the North, in pursuit of gaining his favor to influence his constituents to vote for her.

Proving how absolutely horrible and merciless she is was when she put the life of her niece Cassandra (Maika Rivera) in danger by making her her pawn in order to take full control of Mariano, and eventually killing her after she attempted to betray her.

But her rapport with Don Guillermo didn’t last long as she provided support to the rebel group led by Armando (John Estrada) and Lolita (Rosanna Roces), who were also eyeing to kill Don Guillermo for perpetrating the massacre of farmers used to be led by Armando to claim their land.

Mariano also had the same fate as Cassandra during a standoff between the Black Ops and the authorities and Task Force Agila led by Cardo. His death paved the way for Vice President Camilo Edades (Noel Colet) to become the Acting President, with Lily still making sure to take full control of the Palace by having his family abducted and threatening him that she would have him and them killed if he refuses to follow her orders.

And now that the real President Hidalgo is on his way back to regain his position, Lily is still eager to fight for what she knows she truly deserves. Although there’s a possibility that he and Task Force Agila will succeed, she’s going to make sure that they and the whole country are going to suffer.

Will the plans of Lily and her allies be still successful? Or will President Hidalgo and Task Force Agila be able to topple them down? Let’s find out by not missing the remaining episodes of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, weeknights on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z Channel 11 and iWantTFC.
