John Arcilla scenes in Ang Probinsyano

Despise him all you want but John Arcilla would proudly wear hate comments like a badge of honor that validates his effectiveness as a villain. After all, who wouldn’t take pride when you’re playing the invincible nemesis of Cardo Dalisay (Coco Martin)? Here are 10 scenes of his character, Renato Hipolito, in the Kapamilya series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano that will give you oversized anger.

Remember when he convinced us all in the beginning of a new season that he’s a good public servant in the National Defense Department, only to be revealed as a rebel group kingpin? From a goody-goody officer to Pulang Araw leader real quick, Renato shocked and infuriated a lot of viewers when he took off his mask.

It turned out he’s a mole of a separate faction of Pulang Araw, the rival of Romulo (Lito Lapid)’s group. He connived with Pulang Araw’s Alakdan (Jhong Hilario) to perform acts of terrorism in the city.

Renato’s villainy stands out in the scenes where he mocks his men, as if he’s God, the most powerful and most intelligent being. People around him, equally hungry for power, choose to swallow the insults in exchange for his promises. There was a scene where Manolo (Sid Lucero) convinced himself to just put up with Renato’s attitude until he found a way to bring him down. In another encounter, Renato reprimanded Alakdan for yet another mistake. Soon, he’d betray his friends in Pulang Araw by ordering their killing.

As if he’s the demon, Renato punishes his enemies and brings them to hell. A scene in this Kapamilya Toplist shows him forcing Romulo to speak up about Cardo’s whereabouts. He firmly pressed on Romulo’s wound while the latter was shackled to a hospital bed.

Renato shows no mercy even to women. He used to lure Diana (Angel Aquino) into his trap of falling for him so he could use her expertise and abate her suspicion. Then again, Diana discovered his true colors when she escaped from a murder he planned, leading to her alliance with Cardo and Romulo’s Vendetta.

A terrifying reunion happened when Diana was captured by Renato in a skirmish. Playing her cards well, she pretended to take his side again and turn her back on the Vendetta. But when caught, Diana suffered from Renato’s ruthless hands. The scene where he strangled Diana with bare hands made viewers want to punch their television sets.

After a series of misfortune, Renato managed to recover through the help of a stranger-turned-protégé Jacob (Marc Abaya). Together, they planned to rule as drug lords and work on Lily (Lorna Tolentino)’s downfall.

It’s easy to hate John in the series but it’s also impossible not to feel impressed with his gigantic performance, especially when sharing the screen with Lorna. It’s a truly enthralling experience to watch an intense scenario enacted by two of television’s crème de la crème of acting. Their characters’ struggle for power adds more depth to the storyline.

Recently, Renato brought an air of terror in Ilocos as he stormed to the hostage taking scene executed by Cardo and Task Force Agila. Then he and Arturo (Tirso Cruz III) criticized the Black Ops led by Albert (Geoff Eigenman) for yet another dumb mistake.

Renato vowed he will not stop until Cardo is finished. Don’t miss an episode of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, weeknights, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, and A2Z.
