Some would perceive unpleasant events as just a normal part of existence. Others would call it karma. For Ellice (Iza Calzado), no one else but Marissa (Jodi Sta Maria) is the bearer of bad luck in her life. This Kapamilya Toplist from Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin features the scenes where Ellice played the victim card and blamed Marissa for all the mess around her.
Female rivalries are often intensified by a romantic tug-of-war as how Ellice and Marissa keep on fighting over Gabriel (Sam Milby). Ellice, although wearing the crown as the legal wife, many times felt defeated by her enemy’s tactics. The other woman’s victory would eat up her confidence. Her insecurities turn her helpless. She thinks she’s not good enough for her family, husband, and even her company.
But, upon discovery of Marissa and Gabriel’s affair, Ellice did not cave in. She boldly faced Marissa, then, made her nemesis’ snaky schemes be known to the public. “Matagal mo nang tinapon ang dignidad at respeto mo sa sarili mo dahil uhaw na uhaw ka sa pagmamahal,” she told Marissa, inculpating the latter for her failed marriage with Gabriel.
Marissa pleaded innocent and pinned the blame on the mad legal wife instead, “Tingnan mo rin ang sarili mo sa salamin para makita mo kung bakit siya nasusuklam sa’yo bago mo padapuin ang madumi mong kamay sa mukha ko.”
Drowning in anger and pain, Ellice ordered Marissa’s killing. In the span of seventeen years since Marissa’s disappearance, Ellice managed to bit by bit rebuild herself – her marriage, family, and company. However, the hopeful times didn’t last long because Marissa, seething with anger, resurrected at the most unexpected moment.
The reunion was intense and full of biting sarcasm, with Ellice telling her enemy, “After all these years, nag-e-enjoy ka pa rin sa pagiging ahas mo.” Behind the feisty exterior lies Ellice’s desperation and insecurities. She was scared Marissa’s comeback might reopen old flames and feelings. She was afraid the past might intertwine with the present, ruin the family and career she tried hard to rebuild over the past seventeen years.
Knowing that Marissa is using her son Jacob (Grae Fernandez) to reconnect with Gabriel, Ellice filed a TRO. She didn’t like seeing Jake‘s closeness with Hope (Kira Balinger), either. There was a scene where Ellice stormed to Marissa’s house after Hope and Jake went missing, thinking the latter is putting her daughter’s life at risk.
She also blamed Jake for the changes in Hope’s behavior. In every round of the blame game, Ellice would target Marissa but the latter knows how to play clean. In a scene, Marissa said Ellice’s own behavior pushes Gabriel and Hope away.
Ellice played the game differently by lifting the TRO. It was followed by a series of warm encounters with Jake, with a hidden motive to gain his sympathy and eventually use their closeness to defeat Marissa.
In a pivotal scene leading up to more conflict, Ellice talked to Jake about Marissa’s wickedness – from taking Gabriel to stealing Cenidoza Pearls. She chalked the misery up to Marissa’s evildoings.
To gain the public’s sympathy, Ellice would speak with the media about Marissa’s schemes. She also posted a video to broadcast her being a victim of Marissa’s lies and greed. The public and even the Villarosas took Ellice’s side.
