From dominating the movie and television scene in her 50 years in the industry, the Diamond Star Maricel Soriano is about to conquer the online world through the much-awaited teleserye Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin that is set to premiere on August 17!

But before we could see her in her latest role as Lucing Pineda, let’s revisit her ever-shining and formidable career in the past five decades through her unforgettable TV stints under ABS-CBN via this Kapamilya Spotlight feature.

She had her acting debut in the 1971 flick “My Heart Belongs To Daddy” as a six-year-old child star, wherein her skills in singing, dancing, and acting were discovered and eventually catapulted her into becoming one of the most sought-after young actresses of her generation.

From being a movie star who appeared in a slew of big screen hits, she later on entered the world of television and became known as the “Drama Anthology Queen” because of the two long-time drama anthologies she headlined and was named after her – Maricel Regal Drama Special (1987-1990) and The Maricel Drama Special (1990-1997).

Maricel then went on to exhibit her comedic chops in the three consecutive sitcoms she starred in, namely Kaya Ni Mister, Kaya Ni Misis (1997-2001), Mary D’ Potter (2001), and Bida Si Mister, Bida Si Misis (2002-2005).

In 2003, she rend our hearts with her compelling depiction of the Comedy Concert Queen Ai-Ai Delas Alas in the “Sing-Along Bar” episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya. She then had her first-ever teleserye stint in the 2005 drama Vietnam Rose, wherein she played one of the lead female protagonists Carina Mojica-Dela Cerna.

A year after, she went back to comedy via John En Shirley, the remake of the long-running comedy program John En Marsha and reprised her role as Shirley Puruntong, the loving daughter of King Of Comedy Dolphy’s character John.

She then went on to amaze us anew with her flair in drama as she incredibly took on the titular role in the Sineserye Presents: Florinda, which was the third and final instalment of the Susan Roces Cinema Collection series.

Eight years after working in rival TV networks, the 55-year-old illustrious actress had her ABS-CBN comeback via the “Baso” episode of MMK in 2017.

And just last year, she both warmed and broke our hearts with her impeccable portrayal of Sabel, the foster mom of the titular character played by Angel Locsin in the well-loved action-drama primetime series The General’s Daughter.

For sure, many of us already can’t wait to be compelled by the one and only Diamond Star’s sure-fire performance as she topbills the highly-anticipated series Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin, which marks a major milestone as it is the first teleserye to be fully launched on the Kapamilya Channel and Kapamilya Online Live on August 17.
