Kapamilya Spotlight: Jodi Sta. Maria’s versatile, outstanding acting stints through the years

With her delightful and remarkable portrayals in her TV appearances through the years, Jodi Sta. Maria will take a different thespic route in the much-awaited teleserye Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin.

With teasers of the show revealing how Jodi would transform into a vicious antagonist, we couldn’t help but anticipate another brilliant performance from this premiere Kapamilya female star! But while we are waiting for its pilot episode this coming August 17, let’s take a look back first on Jodi’s outstanding dramatic appearances in this Kapamilya Spotlight feature.

Her showbiz career took off in 1999 when she became part of the youth-oriented series Gimik and Tabing Ilog. From being among the extended cast members in the former, she became one of the stars of the latter as she played George, the love interest of Baron Geisler’s Fonsi.

By the start of the new millennium, a new and great opportunity knocked on her after she was chosen to portray Lia Buenavista in the hit classic romance drama Pangako Sa ‘Yo. She then got reunited with her on-screen partner Patrick Garcia in the 2003 teleserye Darating Ang Umaga and in 2005 for Pablo S. Gomez’s Kampanerang Kuba, the TV adaptation of the Filipino comic series of the same title and of the famed illustrator.

After her first take on being a kontrabida in Kampanerang Kuba, Jodi once again became one in Walang Kapalit (2007), astonishing us with her performance as Cynthia Bermudez, the third party in the romance of its lead characters played by Piolo Pascual and Claudine Barretto.

In 2008, she appeared in three teleseryes – Ligaw Na Bulaklak as guest character Marilyn, Palos as supporting character Carmela Canavarro, and Sineserye Presents: The Susan Roces Cinema Collection: Patayin Sa Sindak Si Barbara as main character Ruth Martinez.

The 40-year-old actress then went on to appear in the 2009 primetime drama series Tayong Dalawa, wherein she portrayed supporting character Angela Dominguez. A year after, she impressed us with her stints in Tanging Yaman as the domineering yet loving Marina Dimaguiba and in Noah as Ruth De Leon-Perez, the biological mom of the titular character played by Zaijian Jaranilla.

For sure, many of us got amused with her portrayal of Sophia Delgado, one of the lead roles in the well-loved 2011 fantasy comedy drama series 100 Days To Heaven, which was re-aired on ABS-CBN Channel 2 this year in light of the community quarantine due to COVID-19.

After her special participation in Mundo Man Ay Magunaw as the young Olivia, portrayed by veteran actress Eula Valdez, she then went on to delight us every morning as the iconic Maya Dela Rosa-Lim, the lead female protagonist of the first-ever and top-rating daytime drama of the Kapamilya network – Be Careful With My Heart.

She then went on to star in the 2015 remake of Pangako Sa ‘Yo, her teleserye debut 15 years ago. With Andrea Brillantes filling her previous role Lia, she was tapped to portray Amor Powers, a character in the teleserye played by Eula Valdez in the original. More than making us fall in love with her chemistry with Ian Veneracion, she compelled us with her portrayal of one of the most iconic characters in Philippine television.

Jodi then amused us with her dual roles as estranged twin sisters Mona and Lisa in Sana Dalawa Ang Puso, which marked her return to daytime series in 2018. Action star Robin Padilla and Richard Yap stood as her on-screen partners.

Last year, she touched our hearts with her dramatic chops in Sino Ang Maysala? Mea Culpa as Fina Baniaga, the distraught mom who lost her child at birth and did everything for so many years in order to find her and take her back.

And early this year, she spread good vibes, laughter, and inspiration as the cheerful, loving, and hardworking single mom Chona San Miguel in the iWant series “My Single Lady,” which was also shown in the primetime block of ABS-CBN.

Aside from these TV series, she also lent her talent in a few episodes of Maalaala Mo Kaya, with the “Gatas” episode as her latest gig.

Are you excited as us to see Jodi in her arguably most daring portrayal to date in Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin as Marissa? Well, you better not miss an episode of this upcoming teleserye once it premieres on August 17!

Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin also marks a major milestone as it is the first teleserye to be fully launched on the Kapamilya Channel and Kapamilya Online Live.
