Looking at the lessons infused in the story of Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin, we are reminded of the devastating grip of greed over a person’s heart. Materialistic desires and selfishness eat up a person until he turns evil. Sometimes, too much ambition can be a double-edged sword. Such was the case for Ellice (Iza Calzado) whose pure heart turned dark because of negative influences and lust for power, as shown in these scenes from the hit primetime series.
We witnessed how Ellice blossomed into the beautiful, selfless Ceñidoza heiress. Her actions displayed pure intentions and love towards everyone especially her family and then-best friend Marissa (Jodi Sta Maria) until that night of a mortal sin that changed the course of their lives.
Ellice had her admirable story of rising from the ashes as well, following the devastating demise of her father and the struggle with guilt after not owning up to killing Victor (Albie Casino) out of self-defense. She became the queen of her own empire – the Ceñidoza Pearls. She was hailed a force to be reckoned with in the jewelry industry until Marissa resurfaced seventeen years since a failed assassination.
The emergence of Marissa’s La Sierra changed the game. Ellice would feign confidence each time but her actions would scream fright and insecurity. We know she feels threatened deep inside. If not, she wouldn’t resort to underhanded tactics just to win against her rival.
There was an instance when Ellice secured a spot at the Korean Fashion Week without lifting a finger because Marissa had to back out from the bidding after learning about Lucing (Maricel Soriano)’s arrest. It may be plotted by Belen (Rita Avila) alone but Ellice also took advantage of the situation.
She was dared to back out from the event but she didn’t. Instead, she kept her head held high as she faced Marissa and told the latter that the deal was won fair and square by Ceñidoza Pearls.
Ellice went as far as filing a TRO for Marissa’s son, Jake (Grae Fernandez) to keep them away from her family. She was scared that Jake’s closeness with her daughter, Hope (Kira Balinger), might once again crack up her marriage with Gabriel (Sam Milby). Although the hunches about Marissa’s intentions of using Jake to lure Gabriel are true, Ellice’s choice of actions had adverse effects. The growing layers of conflict would push her to wish for her enemy’s death.
Playing the victim card is one of Ellice’s most used strategies. She knew everyone would hate Marissa once she exposes the latter forcing her to give up Ceñidoza Pearls in exchange for the consent to let Jake donate a piece of his bone marrow for Hope’s transplant.
Ellice took advantage of Hope and Jake’s disappearance by guesting on a television show trying to search for her daughter’s whereabouts. With tears, Ellice made sure to rouse pity as she revealed Marissa’s terms for the covetous deal, which she would call off later on by the grounds of duress.
“We have been an empire for decades,” Ellice declared as Ceñidoza Pearls faced another setback.
