His character Jake Zulyani in the well-loved primetime series Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin may be raised singlehandedly by his ‘ibu’ Marissa Pineda (Jodi Sta. Maria), but Grae Fernandez actually maintains healthy relationship with his equally-“gwaping” dad, seasoned 90’s actor Mark Anthony Fernandez.
In his past media interviews, the 19-year-old fast-rising thespian divulged that even though his parents separated, he still harbors tight bond and constant communication with his father. According to him, they usually talk about his craft in acting, considering that he has just started in showbiz, and bond by playing basketball whenever they both have the time.
In an interview with PUSH, he expressed his willingness to work with him for he knows that he’s going to be guided by his Daddy Mark in further honing his acting talent. He added that he actually suggested to his manager for them to work in an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya together.
When asked if he would get nervous working with his father, Grae said that it’s not going to happen since he’s comfortable with him and he knows him well already. The young actor also revealed that his dad isn’t actually the type to give acting tips or advice to him because he wants him to bloom in his craft in his own way.
“Well, actually no’ng sinabi niya sa’kin, parang ayaw niya ako turuan ng gano’n kasi baka magaya ko. Sabihin ng tao ginagaya ko siya.” the teen heartthrob said.
Then he continued, “So gusto niya, maging original ako sa sarili ko. Hanapin ko ‘yong sarili kong style. Hanapin ‘yong sarili kong path, which I think is great advice talaga na hanapin mo talaga ‘yong sarili mong opportunities at ‘yong sarili mong style at ‘yong path mo. Kasi kung hahanapin or titingnan mo ‘yong style ng isang tao na nagawa na, ano pa ‘yong mabibigay mong bago? So ‘yon po ‘yong na-learn ko.”
So far, ever since Grae entered the local entertainment scene, he already scored big projects. Those included the iWant reboot of “Spirits: Reawaken” (2018), Hiwaga Ng Kambat (2019), and the primetime drama Starla.
He also used to be part of Star Magic's teen boy-group Gimme 5, which actually won the Most Promising Recording/Performing Group award in the 46th GMMSF Box-Office Entertainment Awards way back in 2015.
