Kapamilya series 2 Good 2 Be True is loaded with good vibes and kilig courtesy of key players Ali (Kathryn Bernardo) and Eloy (Daniel Padilla) and all the other interesting side characters. Recently, viewers are getting obsessed with the tandem of Margie (Gelli De Belen) and Captain/Kap Rosales (Cris Villanueva) aka MarKap because of their naturally cute and relatable love story. Their scenes give off K-drama feels, thanks to the perfect balance of comedy and romance.
Gelli and Cris themselves enjoy watching their scenes. They also shared behind-the-scenes trivia in this episode of Kapamilya React.
In 2 Good 2 Be True, Margie and Kap Rosales became friends when the latter started to investigate a hotel heist witnessed by Ali, the former’s daughter. Although there was chemistry from the start, they made a pact to remain just friends since Margie is traumatized by her failed relationships with Ali and Pat (Bianca de Vera)’s respective fathers. Besides, her daughters are quite strict.
As the story progressed, the clamor for a MarKap ‘ship’ grew stronger, thus the creatives decided to give the characters their own love angle. MarKap is therefore purely unexpected. It might be a surprising plot twist, but the actors were game about it. There’s no more awkwardness as they've been friends since the ‘80s.
“Normally, sa mga actors na lalaki, ang inaalalayan namin is huwag ma-ilang ‘yung babae. Eh, si Gelli, hindi naman naiilang kasi sa dami na naming eksena na nagawa before. At saka hindi siya mailangin na tao,” says Cris, reacting to that scene wherein Pat caught Margie and Kap Rosales coming out of the CR together. It was a hilarious moment. Pat had her usual big reactions, so Margie and Kap panicked while trying to explain that she accidentally spilled coffee on his shirt.
Bianca added enthusiasm to the scene. ‘Yung ibang artista nag-gy-gym bago maghubad, eh. Ako, kumain bago maghubad.”
In the next featured scene, Kap joined Margie and Pat for dinner. Prodded by Pat, Kap Rosales mentioned that he’s a widower. According to Cris, it was at that time when director Mae Cruz-Alviar thought of a MarKap love angle, “Naaalala ko, binanggit ni Direk Mae, ‘Parang gusto ko itong Kap and Margie.’ Ako naman, akala ko one of those lang.”
According to Gelli, “Even if they were intentional with it, ang feeling ko lang naman parang it’s just one of those things na you need to do to make a story move a certain way, para to feed the characters of Ali and Eloy.”
Scene number three shows Pat asking Kap’s help to carry Margie, who fell asleep on the table. Gelli reacts, “Sumo-slow mo pa si Direk, eh.” She faces Cris, "‘Di ba mas nakaka-touch ‘yung umabot ka sa puntong pati tsinelas naisip mong tanggalin?” She further dissects what makes MarKap a hit among viewers, “Feeling ko the reason why it’s also working is because Kap is so strong and serious sa presinto. Pero pagdating kay Margie, biglang ang lambot niya, biglang tiklop. Kaya feeling ko nagwo-work ‘yun kasi sa contrast ng character ni Kap ‘pag nasa opisina tapos pagdating kay Margie, nag-iiba.”
The next scene is their trending first date. Gelli reveals, “When we we’re doing that, natatawa lang ako kasi ang saya no’ng script no’ng binasa ko. Tapos excited akong gawin. It also resonates because there are a lot of things that we kinda hint on, na parang this is what’s right, this is what’s better, para hindi hard sell.”
The date scene was a collaborative effort among them and the creatives. They were extra cautious in building the elements such as Margie drinking beer to steady her nerves. “Careful din kami na huwag magmukhang nalasing si Margie kasi hindi naman talaga gano’n,” Cris maintains.
It was followed by their trending accidental kiss, which Gelli describes as “parang Kdrama.” It’s her first time watching the whole scene, although she saw clips on social media. Asked how their spouses reacted, Gelli says her husband, singer-actor Ariel Rivera, did not watch the kissing scene. It’s easier on her part since Ariel works in the same industry.
Cris, on the other hand, was more conscious of his wife’s possible reaction to the kiss. He texted her to skip that particular episode but, unfortunately, his wife wasn’t able to read his message. Although it’s not an issue, still he wanted to respect her feelings.
The last featured scene witnessed Kap’s confession, then MarKap made their relationship official. Trivia: Direk Mae asked the writers to revise the original dialogues in this particular scene. Sabi niya, ‘Teka, it’s not working.’ So tinawagan niya ‘yung mga writers para i-revise [‘yung lines].”
The one shown, which is the revised version, only took one perfect take. Gelli further remarks, “Hindi naman sixteen years old itong dalawang ito, eh. So, kailangan iba ‘yung level of communication nilang dalawa. And with the last version, it really worked out.”
The MarKap ship has finally sailed, so better not miss an episode of 2 Good 2 Be True, weeknights, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, and A2Z.
