While her well-loved character Margie Fajardo in 2 Good 2 Be True is a single mom to two pretty and adorable daughters named Ali (Kathryn Bernardo) and Pat (Bianca de Vera), actress Gelli de Belen, in real life, has two beloved sons with her husband Ariel Rivera – Julio and Joaquin.
But unlike Margie who gets to see and spend time with her daughters since they live under the same roof, Gelli doesn’t have the same opportunity as both her kids have been in Canada in 2016 to pursue their studies. Thus, she and Ariel only get to see them occasionally or whenever they have a long vacation from work.
As a mom, it’s definitely difficult for her not to be able to see, take care, and attend to the needs of her now grown-up sons. In a recent Magandang Buhay interview, she revealed that she used to cry a lot everytime they call them, especially in the first few months. However, she realized that they must not call them more often, perhaps to prevent herself from feeling sad.
That’s why she makes sure to make the most out of their precious time as a family, through hanging out or playing golf together, preparing meals and baon for them whenever she and Ariel are in Canada, and or simply chilling or jamming to their favorite songs at home – which she fondly shares on social media and her YouTube channel.
Although she has to live far away from them, the 49-year-old actress is proud of his two boys because of how independent and gumptious they have become. She imparted that they decided sell biko or native rice cakes, which recipe was bequeathed to them by their paternal grandparents, as a side hustle. It was Julio who initially came up with the idea since it’s a family favorite and a staple in their gatherings, and later on helped in cooking every Friday and Saturday.
And all their hardships and sacrifices have already paid off because last June, their family celebrated the graduation of Julio from York University in Canada, which the proud mom documented on her Instagram page by sharing clips and snaps of the ceremony and of their family’s intimate bonding moment at home thereafter.
But what makes Gelli the proudest is that they’ve never forgotten everything that she and Ariel have instilled them, as what she related to the momshie-hosts upon watching the heartwarming pre-recorded video message of her sons dedicated to her.
“I just feel really blessed na despite the distance, they’ve really lived whatever we taught them. Kung ano ang mga itinuro namin sa kanila habang lumalaki sila, hanggang ngayon nakikita ko sa kanila. Hindi nila nakakalimutan. I’m just grateful that I have the most wonderful children any parent could ever ask for. I’m just sad lang na hindi kami palaging magkasama sa mga highs and lows ng buhay nila. Hindi kami laging nando’n,” she tearfully conveyed.
