It was in 2016 when we witnessed the emotional reunion between estranged father and son Boom Labrusca and Tony Labrusca during the latter’s audition in the reality talent search Pinoy Boyband Superstar.
That was said to be their first-ever encounter after years of living apart – with Boom based here in the Philippines while Tony used to live with his mom Angel Jones and his stepdad and stepsister in Canada – and sparked the rekindling of their bond.
"I really didn't know ano talaga 'yong dapat kong maramdaman kasi 'yong first na nakita ko 'yong tatay ko parang ‘di ko maiiwas na he's my blood. And kahit parang stranger siya sa'kin, I see so much of myself in him,” the younger Labrusca related about their heart-rending meeting.
Even though he is indeed his biological dad, many people couldn’t help but notice, and even probably get appalled upon finding out that the 24-year-old fast-rising actor, who’s actually his father’s namesake, would only call him Boom.
Speaking to the press present in the launching of Star Magic Circle Batch 18 talents in which he’s a part of, Tony addressed the issue by responding, “Kasi i think, you know, after years of not being with my biological father, I mean, people have to give it to me na it's weird to call him my dad. I think, at first, I have to build a relationship with him, which we have naman. And my biological dad has taught me so much about showbiz coz he's been in the industry for so long. So I'm super grateful for that.”
Nevertheless, he really appreciates having him back in his life and considers it as a blessing.
The 46-year-old actor, on the other hand, supported his son’s statement by reassuringly telling Hotspot that they are indeed in good terms.
“Okay kami. Hindi lang talaga kami showbiz. ‘Yong private na buhay namin, sa amin na lang ‘yon. Pati siya, sabi niya sa isang interview niya na natatanong siya sa mga ganyan, ‘we’re good’. Kapag may time kami, nag-uusap kami, lalabas kami. ‘Di pa lang namin nagagawa ‘yong sabi ko sa kanya na gigimik kami together,” he willingly imparted.
We may not almost see them together in public, or at least in their respective Instagram accounts, but Boom has been very supportive of his son from the moment he joined Pinoy Boyband Superstar up to now that he’s already a full-fledged actor.
